big rob Posted February 17, 2012 Share Posted February 17, 2012 Can I adjust the gain inside the amp, I am plugging in active basses with high outputs but i have to crank the gain up to 10 just to get in the ok but only when playing really hard. essexbasscat Posted February 18, 2012 Share Posted February 18, 2012 Maybe get in touch with Trace or another amp repair specialist (like Surrey amps) and ask their advice ? It's doubtful the amp left the factory with this issue. Assuming the lead between the bass and the amp is proven to be a good conducter (therefore delivering a strong signal to the amp), it sounds like something has happened inside the amp. If you adjust any gain controls (if this can be done ?) you may well be attempting to compensate for a problem elsewhere, which could potentially only worsen the problem ? Best ask a specialist. Sparky Mark Posted February 19, 2012 Share Posted February 19, 2012 If you crank up the bass EQ on the amp (and bass) is it still struggleing to get the ok led flashing? Adding bass is the easiest way to drive an input stage harder. Ashdown heads input levels are affected greatly by the heads EQ settings and your Trace may be similar. Ghost_Bass Posted February 20, 2012 Share Posted February 20, 2012 your amp is fine, you should read the manual. usually trace amps work best with their gains set really high, on mine i had the gain set to 8.5. What you should do is to play your bass as hard as you'll ever be playing and set the gain to the "ok" position and then set the volume. don't worry if the ok doesn't light up during playing, it should only light up in that ocasions when you really push your bass.
