Romantic Dragons of Ely

That's a brave choice, I've always thought Tony Goggle did the definitive version of this.

Do you use the tumbledrier in the bridge?

We can't always pull it off, obviously. Tony's line is extremely difficult to do justice to as you know!
For the bridge we found it's possible to get away with one of those little cement mixers - no-one seems to notice!

It took ages for the penny to drop. It's one of those electric ones from Wickes:

We just mic it up through the desk using an AKG D11, job done! :)

At the risk of being flamed to death....
Many of these are the reason(s) that I'm either in an originals band...
Or not in a band at all.
I understand that these may be as a part of lucrative function/covers band arrangement.... But I'd just stand there and play it like a zombie. For some reason, I only enjoy playing something that I've had some input into, for better or worse.
In the last band I was in, we did "All along the Watchtower..." and I hated it.

Quite obviously my mileage varies significantly...

And limits (severely) my ability to find a band... :(
As a band we have made the decision to play as much of our own stuff as we think we can get away with. This means sets will vary from 100% own brand to maybe 70% covers. At a recent gig where we were playing about 50/50 we got asked to play more of our original material which was great - so not all doom and tribute bands!

I don't suppose a lot of this makes much sense as we're predominantly an originals band, with a few covers sprinkled in, but hey ho.

Neanderthal Blues
Economic Migrant Blues
North
All The Same
Day Dreamin'
Now That You're Gone
Boy Angus Is A Dreamer
A Credit To This World
The Lang Reel O' Collieston
The Fisherman Sings (Oh And He Sings)
Driven To Dance
Desert

Covers:

Bring Down The Birds - Herbie Hancock
Goo Goo Barabajagal - Donovan
I Feel Like A Child - Devendra Banhart
Louie Louie - The Kingsmen
007 (Shanty Town) - Desmond Dekker

We often like to end with Louie Louie, getting progressively faster until the drummer decides he's had enough :)

Strewth!!! :o That is some gig!!!

I think I could just about manage 2 - 3 hrs but our drummer and guitarist's bladders will only hold out for
about 15 numbers!!!!!!   :D

I have read my way through these lists and the great thing about them is, it shows that kind of stuff you
play/are keen on, which in turn gives us all a better understanding and what sort of player you are.

I'll dig out our list. B)

Cheers. :)

I must admit it was a bitterly cold night as I recall but the atmosphere and response from the punters from the outset was great - really spurred us on - I was grateful when American Pie was called as gave most of the band a chance for a "comfort break". :D   , I tend to drink 3 pints of water per gig so tend to slosh a bit towards the end!

Oh and I forgot to mention we also do Does Your Mother Know (Abba) and of course Mustang Sally!

The thing about 'Mustang Sally' is... everyone seems to do the Commitments version, which is crap IMHO. The 1965 Wilson Pickett original is in a different key, different tempo, has an entirely different bass line, and is well groovy. And of course, no-one sings it like Mr Pickett...

Edit: The very first pic that shows before you hit 'Play'... see who that is on guitar? :)
