Hey every one im building/restoring my first ever bass and have got a couple of questions which I couldnt find the answers to on google.

Question 1: The bass has a P/J Pickup set, does this mean i have to buy P/J specific pickup sets or can i mix and match e.g EMG Precision Pickups and a Fender jazz bridge pickup?

Question 2: If the answer to question 1 is yes I can mix and match then has any one got any experience with these http://www.gak.co.uk/en/emg-p-set-p-bass-replacement/1883 (sorry the link button isnt working) and do you think they would work well with a Fender Jazz bridge pick up and fretless neck?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Mixing most any passive pickups is easy. There may be balance issues if one is hotter than the other but that's usually easy to tame by adjusting pickup heights. The standard EMG is an active pickup and that would require a preamp with two input buffers that would handle either pickup. The old Bartolini TBIBT might be an option for this but I'm not absolutely sure. It has been done but it might be a headache.

You can't simply mix active and passive in a standard Fender style wiring.
