A smack in the face of Ernie Ball from an Italian company called Alusonic makes an aluminium mock-ray!

I first came across these when I was looking up Cass Lewis on YouTube. For some reason they don't sound like my head tells me they should sound like.

2:38 if you can't place Cass Lewis...

Im not sure why there is a lack of love for the Sabre? And as for a smack in the face for EBMM I guess their sales figures for Sabre production would have a big part of why they stopped making them 20 (?) years ago. If 2 billion people order them by the end of today and leave a $7'000 deposit Im sure Big Poppa would make a run in aluminium or in a Keith Lemon if your American at home voice "Aloominum".

I like it! Wonder if it comes in a HS model...
The neck pickup is splittable (rear coil), so the HS sounds are in there - he sets it to HS at 3:23 and solos the rear coil around 4:00.

I think it sounds rather nice, and I like the aluminium body. (dons blinkers and earplugs to disperse GAS)

Depresses me every time I come across manufacturers making instruments in interesting (non-wood) materials but don't have any original ideas beyond that. What's the point?
Agreed! And why would you buy one when hundreds of other and cheaper basses which sound identical. Why use Aluminium unless it sounds different? If it does why design pickups that make it sound woody? Then the metal body is just a gimmick!

Maybe i'm just being cynical...

About £2200 then, so about £700 more than a HH Stingray. Plenty of optional extras available, for extra cash. If I had that kind of dosh knocking about, I'd be very tempted.

I've just noticed they have a Precision and Jazz bass too (gargling even more now!) - shiny!

Not into the J-Special having a control plate and scratchplate (or at least not white!) None would be better, or just the outline of them etched into the surface of the body. Sounds like a J...

Here's the P - the black scratchplate looks nice with the mirrored body.

It's a gimmick if you're trying to sell it on the tone myths most builders do with wood. If it's just for fun it's just another look.

I don't know my old Ergodyne was a bit weird shaped.
The Erodyne A shape is one of the few exceptions to the rule. Although ironically it was based on the all-wood Affirma.

Have you noticed all of these guys are playing it sat down?

I had one of the old Kramer Aluminium neck guitars, you needed a transit van full of rsj's to support it if you were ever foolish enough to try and play it standing!
Wimp!

Nothing wrong with the weight or balance any of my Kramer aluminium necked guitars AFAIAC.
