Warmoth Precision neck with ebony board, no idea about body wood, but it weighs marginally less than Gibraltar. Sustains for ever. Wizard '64s. Offered it for sale here, no one wanted it. In retrospect I'm rather happy about that :)

Oh my lord that’s dribble inducing.

Marco Bass Guitars MV fretless build in progress. I won't decide on control config and electronics package until I get a chance to hear the proprietary neodymium sidewinder pickups Marco has wound specifically for this bass. That's a purpleheart fingerboard, maple neck, maple top wings, and not sure on  the core wood.

My current fretless squeeze... OLP Ray body, Jaydee neck with mostly-unlined ebony board, EMG-HZ pickup, as yet passive electrics. Future plans are to squeeze some sort of 3-band eq in there. For the moment, I'm loving it just as it is. It plays beautifully and sounds better.

...and that is a nice dollop of wood!

Isn't it 🙂

Don't know what it is, but GMR specialise (or did) in lavish use of luxury exotic woods. My fretted Bassforce 5 has a solid bubinga neck where most luthiers would have used a veneer.

Here is my main bass, a 1998 Leduc Masterpiece MP 628 SF in close to pristine condition as I'm a total maniac.

The woods are one piece AAAAAAAA birdseye maple (the brown spot on the back is the heated sugar of the maple which is the proof of its high quality) with AAAAAAAA legal 150 years old Brazilian rosewood fret board and the headstock front veneer for the neck through, AAAAAAAA highly flamed maple on AAAAAAAA ash body (with walnut veneer everywhere between two different woods).

The pickups are the famous Leduc/Benedetti single coils (with dummy coil for total hum-cancelling) coupled to the also famous Leduc/EBS EL5 preamp (not made anymore) with the bass pot fitted in the electronic cavity.

The bridge is the Leduc aluminium with brass locking saddles.

The tuners are Hipshot Ultralite.

The strings spacing is 18/9 mm.

Action is my typical 1.5 to 2 mm at 12th fret.

The weight is 4.1 kilos.

Lovely looking and made bass. May I ask, did the luthier describe it as AAAAAAAA grade wood?

Yes, and the wood grades can go up to 11 ! From grade 5 on, you have the real luthier woods. And Christophe LEDUC is not the next corner luthier, but THE French luthier and is only using top grade woods. In 1998 and 1999, he made a very small series of instruments with these grade 8 woods for his best clients (I also had a 5 strings headless fretless made at that time, sold to a friend of mine now).

Try this bass and you'll consider any other bass, yes even a Fodera, a cheap toy.

No, it's no for sale, as it would be like selling my soul.

I might well have been tempted if I'd seen it.

Instead, I got this one here (W D Music Jazz neck with ebony board):
