Ebony fretboard repair

Recommended Posts

I really must start taking my glasses when I'm buying new basses. :)

I've just bought a new to me bass (Yamaha TRB6) with an ebony board. I've just discovered a small hole in the fretboard by the first fret approx 2mm in diameter and about as much deep. Should I ignore it or fill it and if so what with?

Thanks for your help. :)

You buy a piece of ebony and then you sand it with FLOUR grade paper,,,its a pain in the arse to do...or put in an abalone feature???

Or if you are a lazy bugger like me P38 car filler its a winner and will take a stain

GOOD LUCK

Dip a cocktail stick in dark stain (make sure it's well permitted. Let it dry thoroughly, then soak superglue into it to harden it. Then glue it in the wee hole (superglue again) and trim with a Sharp blade. Finally lightly sand over (about 400 grit) to level and blend it in. Voila.
