I'm torn between trying to find oe pups, or fitting a badass bridge and decent preamp and pickups.It's lovely to play but it's getting tired. Immo Posted December 19, 2011 Share Posted December 19, 2011 Try to do your best not to put active electronics into this bass, it would be damn shame - in my book - to 'active-ate' it if it works fine as passive bass. It`s the sound of money dissapearing if you fit a BA and pre amp. Either that or it`s the sound of a vinatge Fender lover jammin his love spuds in the door! Something about P with that kind of bridge just feels... off. Vintage bridge seems just perfect... [/quote] Badass are great bridges, I originally had mine fitted on a PJ which looked fine as the jazz pickup sat with it nicely, but since putting it on my latest standard bitsa Precision I'm tending to agree with you, it looks kind of wrong. My Dad bought it me a few months ago and saved it for a Christmas gift, what a gift ! It's of unknown origin but I think it's a modded Encore or similar. It has been modded with a JJ humbucker and a coil tap (single coil nearest bridge). Also it has unusually been bound in leather with a suede pickguard. At first I was a little unsure of it but it works really well - just need to be careful of scuffs. Soundwise it's rather excellent, typical P Bass fatness as you expect but the tappable humbucker adds lots of sounds. The P/J setup works great for slapping/pick sounds. Bridge pickup alone is a bit thin on single coil but when on humbucking mode (sounds like series to me) it is great for fingerfunk. I'll proudly be gigging it with my G&L next week.
