Ok, so ill post something more sensible tomorrow, but sh*t this ris is mazing!! First time ive managed to run it all out and wirh my shutte 9 you can really bring some thunder! Ive had a few beers mid ans post session so will poat mire coherence tomorrow, but tgis is s light, so easy to move nd so assive its obscene! Been an owner and a lover if the compct for a while but as a rig, this KILLS!

Sorry about the oaragraphs and selling, ill post a pic ans more sensibe wordsater, just so xcited nd happty! Join me!! :) :)

Morning all!

Feeling pretty good this morning, contrary to yesterdays antics. Thought I'd post my experience with a few less typos and a pic or two! Not sure if this is really the right area for posting this sort of thing or not, but I'll do it anyway. Also, as I wrote below, itd be good to get a barefaced pictures thread going here - what do you run them with, what style of music. I dont think theres one going at the moment? Correct me if I'm wrong!!

As mentioned in an earlier post, I've owned a compact for a while, and taken it out to a couple of rehearsals, and gigged once. I added the midget to the setup not because I really needed to, but because I could, and I wanted to get the full 900w out of the shuttle. I also thought it would mean with or without PA support, I'd be covered.

My full set up is as listed in my sig below, and heres a home picture:

My band had the first weekend rehearsal in about 8 months yesterday, so it was a great opportunity to take the rig out and see how it performed both in terms of transport and performance.

First off, I was on my own going to the studio. I use public transport - a train to Waterloo and its a short walk either end of things. I did have the assistance of a decent trolley and some ratchet ties, but I was still nervous about loading and unloading. This rig is ridiculously light!! and I mean ridiculous. Obviously the specs tell you everything you need to know in this area, but its still pretty unbelievable when I pulled the trolley, bass, amp and effects board down the road with ease (I am a rather unfit late twenty something (30) fella, average build), and I mean ease. Loading the two cabs on to the train (a 2ft lift and small gap to watch) was accomplished with one hand, and my right foot. Again I found this really, really easy! I woned an ashdown mag 115 deep previously, and I'm adamant that these two cabs together are lighter and far more managable than that ever was! At the other end of the station, a similar fashioned demount and off to the pub for an hour before getting into rehearsing. So its light!

Setting the rig up in the rehearsal room left me feeling a bit weird. Reasonably large room, and they had provided a peavey head, trace 115 and ampeg 115 for the bass player. I set mine up a little way from it and it looked tiny. Like a rig for hobbits, or the borrowers. I did have a little smirk on my face though, as I knew what both were capable of.

So I fired things up, drummer got going, and the guitarist was wasted (running a jcm2000(?) with a 412). I ran the genz flat. absolutely flat, with everything at noon - both gains, eq and master volume. Wow!! It absolutley sang! I then engaged the VT bass for some heavy-ish grit and it was thunderous :) :lol: . Our first song, and I couldnt believe how much presence this little set up has. I got thumped in the chest, could hear absolutely everything I was playing crystal clear, and had to turn the volume down a little through the song as it was too loud!! Everything comes through it amazingly - all the effects I run, together, on their own, any combination. I also traverse a few bass tones through our set - I have a thick clean bassy bass tone for a bit of an 80's dance influenced thing, some ballsy grit (most used) for some pelican/cult of lunar type stuff we do, and more mid type sound for some more hardcopre sections (if you can describe them as that).

Everything cut through so well. The midget does add a bit of 'anger' to things, but in such a way that where I was cutting through the mix (easily) with the compact alone last time, the midget adds another dimension to it thats amazing.

So this is a picture of the barefaced rig - excuse the mess in the studio, we had party snacks on the go! I took it form a way back to give you an idea of how small (although I know there are lots of users out there and on this site). I think the house rig sneaks in on the left hand side:

The load home, via the pub, was drunken - as you all appear to have gathered :) - but just as easy. I think I gave the train a bit of a bump when loading and unloading, and the trolley did jump out as I was leaving, and all is unscathed and happy.

My apologies for a bit of a ramble, and I know some of these descriptions of sound are absolute pony and very subjective, but I'm absolutely in love with this rig.

However, I am curious to see more pictures of barefaced rigs - there doesnt seem to be that many pictures around unless I've missed something. Particulalry interested in the bigone, or the baby big and subs (I know theres one out there somewhere!). What do you run them with, what style of music etc etc

I think your enthusiasm for this rig came over on both occasions. :) A good read - for all the posts, drunk or not. :)

The Big One sound is really immense - having tried one. The low fundamental bass end comes through by the skip load, and coupled with a smooth mid range driver, you get some really useful extension into the lower and upper mids. It just nonchalantly reproduces whatever you do. Push in an octave divider and you really feel it. Add some grit or distortion and it comes through as intended. If the sound in your chain is bang on up to the amp - it'll still be bang on after plugging the cab in.

The cab really needs a beefy amp - mine was a bit underpowered by the Eden Traveler 550 (500 watts into 4Ω). I now have a Super Twelve T, and this suits the amp far better. Whilst it doesn't quite have the gargantuan low end of the Big One, it is more efficient, will ultimately go louder, and gives the amp a 4Ω load. It still has the Barefaced family sound - hi-fi but far from clinical, slightly warm but not muddy or boomy. And I can pick it up with one hand.

That is magnificent!! :) im going to get a valve amp one day. 400+ is high on the list, s would another compact i think!

Any word on the big one pics?? :)
