1987 BB5000. A total beast.

Stunning. I saw Steve Vai recently and his bassist, Philip Bynoe uses a fretless BB5000 that's heavily modified - has replacement soapbar shaped pickups which changes the look dramatically.

...and here's a photo of my TRB5PII (Bubinga) that just arrived this morning from a bass shop in the UK named The Gallery. I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Chris Horton for PMing me back with a heads-up about a previously owned TRB5PII for sale at The Gallery. :D Alex Carter, the manager at the Gallery, was a pleasure to deal with. The biggest challenge was convincing my MasterCard customer rep that, yes, I really was buying a bass from a shop in the UK. But two phone calls with them plus them calling Alex directly to confirm my purchase sorted all that out, and Alex shipped the bass out the same day (Monday afternoon his time). It arrived this morning (Wednesday) at 10:30 AM. So now my TRB5PII quest is finally over! According to the serial number it was created in December 2007.

Hi Doug,
I'm glad it all worked out for you and that you now have the bass you were after :)
I hope you enjoy playing the bass.

If you are into TRB bass guitars , check out the TRB porn thread, there are some tasty instruments there :)

Really glad to see that this has had a new lease of life! It sat in my workshop in pieces gathering dust for the best part of a year.

It looks even better than in those photos now. I was delighted to not only resurrect it - finding virtually all the original parts (or exact equivalents) was particularly pleasing. What a bonus to find it punches way above its weight. Happy to gig it any time.

My first bass was a Marlin(!?), the first proper one was a Yamaha BBN4. I used this bass sooo much and managed to get the Attitude 2, had a 714BS too but didn't touch it anywhere near as much - I do believe it's the best 4 stringer made, most versatile, hugely varied sound....I don't reckon the neck's too wide at all, just move your elbow round a little more! Awesome, awesome instrument especially in full two amp mode though single output still pips every other bass I've heard.

My white BB414,simply the best sounding bass ( for a rock covers band ) that I've ever heard or played, have a Fender Jazz and had a Warwick Corvette, both struggled to be heard live with two budding Slashs on guitar.....then I remembered playing one of these while testing out an amp in PMT years ago, £150 later I get a used 414, the rest is history. It is fairly light at 9 lbs, but was still too hefty for my aching back, so swapped out the tuners for hipshots, which made a big difference. Now my go to bass!

Had to share this with the bass community. I picked up an Orange BB414 about five years ago now, it was £120.00 in my local music shop second hand - at the time I needed a back up bass, and thought it was brilliant for the money, I actually did gig it with stock pick ups etc a couple of times and it was great, maybe lacked a bit of the punch of my Fender J Bass Special but overall very impressed.

I then was inspired by some natural 70's P basses I had seen on here and decided to take a sander to the beast, only forgetting that I'm about as technical and practical as Frank Spencer with a cold - the result can be seen in the first pic below. Ouch. I made a real mess, and discovered this was a job for the pro's, or those who are a dab hand!

My guitarist has an impressive array of instruments, and one caught my eye - cosmetically aged, home built... he mentioned it was his old man (with a little help from himself) that had done it. He offered to have him take a look at my BB414, and I gave them the freedom to do what the hell they liked. A week and some Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders later, and the results can be seen below, step by step with pictures - my very own 'signature' bass, created by the Taylor dynasty! We left the J style pick up in, it sounds great. I now have a bass I totally love, the pictures are pretty good but it looks even better in the flesh and sounds superb. Can't wait to gig with it!

Here is my BB615. I just mounted the Pickguard wich I have bought for it and I like it better then without. What do you think? Further this BB will get a Bartolini Preamp wich I am awaiting and along with that I'd like to mount some new and better readable Knobs like the Lakland Basses have.
