Raslee Posted October 3, 2010 Share Posted October 3, 2010 I've got this 70's Hohner Jazz which has a broken truss rod-i bought it cheap with this in mind. However i know nothing about DIY or repairing for that matter ...sooo would it be an easy straight forward fix and how would i go about doing it? JTUK Posted October 4, 2010 Share Posted October 4, 2010 Just an opinion but I don't think this would be an easy fix..and would take a luthier to deal with it. I might be wrong but I can't see how you can replace a truss rod...easily.. and would need to have the fretboard off. That being the case... I'd go for a new neck to rescue a bass... MoonBassAlpha Posted October 4, 2010 Share Posted October 4, 2010 If it is constructed anything like a Jack Bass (headless) it is a steel rod in an aluminium u-channel. The usual answer would be to take the fretboard off and replace it. I bored out the hole to the adjuster nut so that the rod assembly could be extracted, and they come out quite easily if you can grab it with something. This might not be as easy with a headed bass, as the, er, head might get in the way. Cheap replacement neck might be the way to go...
