  1. Let me be clear about my take on the microbass units' for myself the MB2 remains a superb piece of engineering & I use mine all the time on my board'  both channels together EQ pretty flat' mids 500hz with a hair of boost' tube sim engaged'  with a suggestion of drive ( I have recently aquired a Lehle Sonic Spark which is astounding for adding a tube like drive' if so desired' but that's a different unit which I strongly champion' & their bass preamp is of an unbelievable quality  also) the MB3  could not replicate this.. & the sound for myself ( which is subjective I totally agree) is Thinner!!! & sterile & doesn't have the warmth & fatness of the MB2'  earlier in this thread I stated my apprehension about this MB3 being superior too its brilliant predecessor.... & for myself it isnt'  & global sales will be its measure... Let's see..?

  2. Hello.. Ive finally got my hands on a MB 3 & just what a disappointment!!! the sound is far thinner'compared to the MB 2.  After an  A&B comparison it doesn't for myself even come close' they have more knobs to twiddle & a reduction in sonic quality' their R&D dept must be shooting for the distortion bass sound that the metal guys use'... The components must be inferior to its predecessor' the tuner & the compression are the additional GIMMICKS although they work well       ( and so they should at this price) and along with the conversion of the drive system which appears to be the priority of the unit'..... also their is two of them for sale on this site both as new'... I rest my case

( & both are still for sale..?)

  3. Every time I've used this gear... (the yellow peril)  it sounds okay' then the band starts & the sound dissapeer's somewhat... Also the livery of it all... is an aquired taste.... One of which I havent!!!!  All of these endorsed artists are just that... & the equipment is made available to them when on tour..... Who would turn that down..? But to purchase I myself' would look elsewhere.

  4. This looks like the finished EBS product to me!! As for the G.K Plex it is a Lemon!!! i tryed it & it was awfull on so many levels ( Doesnt interact with other pedals well at all) &  compared to the microbass 2"  Looks like the designers have taken ideas from T.C ( spectracomp) & G.K the Tuner' as for the Drive' ( Darkglass) ??  As my above script' this could be a winner... Sales will decide that one' im sure many people will rush out to buy one on the strength of its predecessor' but for myself im going to wait!!

  5. Well it remains to be seen if this 3 is superior to the 2...im sceptical..... & No tube simulator now                                        Tuner & Compression added but no longer a pad..?    Im a big fan of the microbass II & its a been a big seller worldwide.                                                       Manufactured in China..? this could be a winner...lets see?? But i for one wont be parting with my original any time soon.

  6. Ive owned MXR M87 & now the Origin Cali 76...& the difference is Night & Day!!!!!..pairing them together on the same board...depending on just what you what a compressor for..?  I place the cali first..& an Aphex bass exciter last...& they are always on!! The sound is Warm' Fat' & Punchy...with clarity!!! the MXR is good' but not in the same class..it doesnt produce the warm tone" & the Spectracomp doesnt either" its all subjective" but i find compression a Big Plus for good tone!!!

  7. I have a GR2 on my board & they are becoming rarer to find !!!!!!  expect to pay anything up to£200 to get your hands on one of em!!!!!!!!its the best envelope filter ive come across....its range of useable sounds are very interactive with drives & octave pedals....& its  just a very flexible filter with a plethora or sounds available.....I sold my MXR  B.E.F  to myself it was way to quacky & with  lazer beam like effects & somehow it got lost in the band mix?  it simply didnt cut or project for myself what-so-ever.... i have no experience of the other pedal on this list.

  8. I have a GR2 on my board....ive also owned wonderloves' for the amount i use it' which is only three or four applications...for certain gig's & others not @ all" the GR2 still rates very highly indeed.. as for this his latest creation....it does sound interesting but' for myself  its sound is not that radically different & personally i find the latest pedal design  ( the silver livery) not that pleasing on the eye whatsoever....Oh' & the price tag..??

  9. First off" i know just how imensely popular globaly the j retro has been...But how many of us own both..?  ( i do & believe them to be amongst the finest engineered available...?  they are to myself different shades of the same colour..But' with other manufacturers pickups these pre's sound  very different..?

  10. Hi Ian.. Excellent post  ive been singing the praises of this box for years..& its applications leave the competiton bobbing in its wake.. I was considering moving to the reidmar amps!!

We have already got one!! In this little magic box... Sound engineers love the D.I tone from it' in my experience & im still finding different ways of using it...

    Cheers Paulo.

P.s... Do not be tempted to the G.K PLEX digital pre!! as it falls way short of our microbass 2... ive just borrowed one & gave it back the Very next day!!!

  11. Yes I have  owned this very same head The Basic 350 ( No Limiter)  & it has a Smooth' Rich' Tone to it.. but I found it to be under-powered  So' using the Stereo 800 would make perfect sense  ( Even tho when I look at this picture my lower back  says  Forget It' for that is seriously heavy' right there)  even the settings you have  are very similar to what I favoured... But I moved it on for a SM900' which in turn I moved on also...because of the weight & when you start fiddling around with six bands of parametric'  well need I say more?  Overkill.                                                                                                                                                                                               I settled with an SM400 which I use bridged... for myself it is the SWR AMP' with all its faults it delivers that sound which we all love...

  12. May i say that i dont want to disagree or contradict with what has been stated here but for myself the Aural Enhancer is not what defines the SWR tone... it merely sucks all the middle out of basic tone the more you enhance it....& ive tryed this in all settings' for the first quarter of its travel..you will find more preamp' but after that its that dreaded mid scoop which cause's the bass to be lost in the band mix.

  13. All of this thread about these beautifully crafted pedals is justifyed..in its own way'  An always on pedal is for myself...is Compression' or an Exciter of some kind..i.e  Aural Expander....But definately not chorus.                                 I use a TC electronic Dreamscape pedal for those type of " fast vibrato' chorus'  effects.. Their " Toneprints" actually  which have superb ease of use sound's & i also use them on a fretless..Subtley" of course(  Not too much of anything)     Now my point about always on' is this...when the music doesnt require that saturated sound...meaning Lush' turn it off!!!!  for as we know  the 1980s bass sounds were swimming in chorus' & to my ears it can become too nasal..a sound'  repetitive.. tune to tune'  but if thats your bag' use it!!                                 I personally dont see that sound continuously in a function band situation' or even a motown or stax one. But the Chase Bliss are superb' without reservation especially the warped vinyl...Now if i can just find a gorgeous Warped Woman to buy me One!!😉.
