  1. Hi, I’m researching the best way to re create the sound of an upright on my Dean Pace EUB. I’ve tried using a condenser mic which sounds fantastic but feeds back like crazy once the desired volume level is achieved. I don’t want to upgrade the piezos or preamp but have been contemplating trying the “Tone Dexter” preamp.

I can justify the purchase as it can be used in conjunction with my acoustic upright as well, but before I do this I was wondering if it’s a stupid idea (in relation to the EUB)

ok I’ve said it, let the merriment commence 😃

I meant to add; getting your playing technique right will be the biggest first step, of course.

PPS. I recently got myself an EBS Micro Bass pedal, which is also something else you may wish to look into - it offers good tonal control / EQ options

I wonder if a 3 Sigma upright bass impulse would work for you. Obviously, you'll need an IR loader device.

Hi, Great news.I've finally managed to reissue my 1st cd !!

Funky Alchemy 2020 By Capricorn 1

Capricorn 1 are one of my many instrumental band projects playing original tunes that mix the influences I love. The Music spans many genres including Rock funk Jazz and world music..... built from the remnants of my days with Paul weller JTQ and Galliano and my musical relationship with drummer Harbans Shrih (JTQ, The Funky Muchachos).

These tracks were originally written by myself Harbens Shrih, Dave O'higgins and Mick Talbot from The Style Council and were recorded in 1990 for Eddie Pillar at Acid Jazz Records. These sessions were intended to be a follow up to a to the album Open Channel D by Whats What and "Totally wired "

Unfortunately it was not to be and the tracks lay in the vaults at Sonica studios South London. I started to put gigs together round the recording and started writing new material for the project, eventually Capricorn 1 was born.

Although the other tracks stayed mainly in hibernation 2 have been issued to Focus Music BMG and have been used by The BBC for the programme "about the good life" www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00wyhth and for other Tv channels around the world

    credits

    released May 31, 2020

I'm really happy with how the bass players available page on facebook is doing right now with 1,663 members to date (with players guitar builders from all over the world) I found when looking, that there wasn't a specific bass work related page there, but there is now and its going from strength to strength...So heres to the future

      You're welcome.

They both look interesting and if I'm honest, a bit too good to be true.  I am prepared to have my mind changed if I see some discussion from owners.  I can't see me having a use for one though.

  7. My inquisitive mind has lead me on a journey of discovery, the goal of which is to discover more about  Mosfet and Bipolar amps. Are they are currently the best type of amp apart from tube and why ? bearing mind I don't have a masters in electronics

    Cheers PF

The best type of amplification device depends on many factors, to name but a few. the frequency, frequency spectrum, input voltage, input current, output power (voltage, current).  As in most of life there is no one simple answer.  Enjoy the learning curve :)

  13. The ineffable case of the screeching upright ? One for Shelock Homes no doubt !!

Its been the most audacious set up in the history of set ups, more leads than Trumps connections to the Russians ! more eq'ing than err....Woodstock ! and more screeching than.......well anyone on Britains got talentless. And that my friends is the common tale of Perfoming with an acoustic instrument night after night.

I'd have sweated myself into a kind of slow panic.  Funny how the mind tries to visualise all sorts of complicated scenarios to account for set backs.
