I don't have that pedal but I did have the Boss is was based on (I sold it for buttons years ago ) and that's what I would pick for it.
Ouch! Those FZ-2's are going for silly money now. For context, the recording was made in the mid 70's, so far fewer options would have been available than are out there now.

I'd like to get the kind of creamy fuzz tone that can be heard at 5m.20s and following in this video - I was thinking maybe a Behringer sf300. Any thoughts?

Hello, I'm Martin and I live in Bromley. I've literally just joined Basschat to talk to you about this bass. I'm thinking of going short scale and I'm looking at Sire U5 and Chowny SWB1.
Can I see/play the bass please?
Hi Martin, yes, of course. I have sent you a private message.

Welcome from another local - not Brighton or Hove, but within about 5 miles, on the South Downs.

The night after the above Huginn & Muninn gig, I was playing keys and weird noises with space-rock band Litmus headlining Friday night at Tannerfest, in Loddington, near Kettering. A few photos have appeared, but I am invisible in all of them. The email I received with this photo said: "Richard is represented by a glowing green stripe" - which is actually part of my keyboard stand setup.

Here's a pic from a gig I did a couple of weeks ago with gonzo morris duo Huginn and Muninn. I was playing the nyckelharpa, while Jess played a shaman drum. It was an album launch party at an East London brewery for the band Raven Age, recently (currently??) on tour supporting Iron Maiden. Apparently one of the band members is Steve Harris's son.
Hence the pic:

Wait for a few weeks before buying. If you still want it after that, there's a much better chance it'll turn out to be a good purchase. If your GAS has moved its focus elsewhere in the meantime, you'll have saved yourself some money.

If Daevid Allen hadn't been refused entry to the UK on returning from a gig with Soft Machine in France, we might never have had Gong.

Just a quick heads up that I've put my mint condition Sire U5 up for sale in the marketplace.

I bought this from knackeredjazz of this parish back at the end of March. It is in mint condition, and comes complete with tags and the supplied allen keys. It was my first foray into short-scale basses, and while I like the scale I found after a while that I was not getting on with the neck, which is a tad thicker than I am used to. It can be strung through the body or through the bridge (use long scale strings for through-body stringing). It has rolled fretboard edges, and all the quality you'd expect from Sire. It is currently strung with a set of Fender flats. It has had only home use while in my possession, and I believe that knackeredjazz only used it for one recording session. I have kept it in a gigbag. Weight (using the traditional "stand on bathroom scales holding vs not holding the bass" method) is around 7.6lb.
Collection or meet-up preferred (I am a few miles north of Brighton), but I have the original box for it, so could post at the buyer's expense and risk. I can also supply a gig bag for it (Thomann deluxe e-guitar bag), which is a perfect fit and was bought just for this bass, so nearly new - see pictures, for an extra £25. Thanks for looking.

Looks like my idea of hell though (camping.... with....people....)
I've done it once, but I had private backstage camping and showers/food as I was stage crew on the Acoustic Stage. That's the ONLY way I'd go....
Same. One of my bands is playing a couple of outdoor festivals in July that are too far away to get home from after our set. I have booked a nearby Premier Inn for one, and a self-catering apartment a few miles away for the other.

Cool! Not sure, but I think @Earbrass of this parish plays one?
Yes, I play the nyckelharpa for the bizarre gonzo 2 man border morris side Huginn and Muninn.

Bit of googling reveals a variation where cash is handed over, but is counterfeit. I have blocked that user.

Posted an item on facebook as for collection only. Got a reply in poor English:
"Ok I take but I would like to come tomorrow but I am currently busy with work, I will send a UPS postman to your home to give you your money in cash and collect the item."
I don't think UPS offer that service, do they? Sounds well dodgy to me, but if I were to get cash, how would the scam work?

My first bass was a Kimbara Jazz. Very lovely and well-built, but could have served double-duty as a boat anchor.

so do please bear that in mind, won't you.

Not so much for basses, but "xyz is wrong with it, but it's an easy fix" - if it's so easy, get it fixed first, then put it up for sale.

I do seem to remember hearing that certain low-frequency vibrations can help with certain conditions. I think there was something about using vibration therapy to help astronauts returning from long spells on the international space station recover their bone density after prolonged weightlessness, and the suggestion that it could be used to treat osteoporosis patients. Can anyone confirm?

I wouldn't be without mine. I use it for nyckelharpa (live), and for electric bass and guitar (recording), and it's great for all these applications. GLWTS.

Martin bought my Sire U5 bass. Lovely guy, and all went well. Deal with confidence.
