good points gents.  I have been after one of these for a while.  Ive always had a lovely p bass in my 78 tokai and as a back up I keep messing with weird and wondeful basses rather than (being a p bass man) just getting a nice back up P!.  The tokai always wears flats and this new one will get grounds

The B15s is really usable too, beefier and louder than the more sort after B15N's

  5. Hi. Any half-rounds/pressurewound strings users here? I have a couple of questions ;) I know that D'Addario and GHS make these ones but is there any other company that make HR/Pressurewound strings? How does it feel and how is a life of those strings compare to flats? I use exlusively flats since 8 years now but maby it's time to experiment a little bit but I need to know if their life is good because I don't wanna change my strings every month. I change my flats every 1-2 years but not less. Thanks in advance ;)

They wont/don't have the same life as flats.  My current flats are near 4yrs old and still have loads of life left.  Id say if you don't mind thump you could get a good few months out of the grounds, probably longer depending how 'dead' you like your strings?

i love Elites Groundwounds on my Jack Casady.  Closest non-flats ive had to flats, the E sounds massive :)

  8. Never bought from Andy Baxter Bass but the 1973 P bass on his site coupled with their Divido monthly payment scheme is sorely tempting me!

the burst/maple right handed one.  replaced pickguard, wiring and knobs but other than that its supposedly original.  I also like the jazz bass on there, again burst/maple/white block

  10. Anyone used the Maruszcsyk own brand flats at all?  Looking for thump (not modern Chromes type twang) but NO dead E

I do like picatos but I always find its a compromise - for thumpy old school I always struggle with a dead E, a lively E usually means using the brighter flats like Fender or Chromes :(

  11. Kept it simple last night.  My 1974 Precision straight into a 1966 Ampeg SB-12.  Beautiful beautiful tone

  12. Just watched the Made Of Stone DVD and currently obsessing over Mani's live tone both with the Casady basses and the more recent 70's Jazz basses.  Lurrrrrvely tone

  13. How does anyone make a VBA 400 sound bad?

  14. Desperately trying to find a drive pedal to get me that tone in The Fratellis song Halloween Blues! What a tone!

Ive studied his gear in a bit of a geeky way.  Obviously I don't know studio wise but generally he uses a flats loaded P bass through an Ampeg valve rig.  I would guess there is a few thousand pound worth of studio gear that is certainly helping :)

  15. Had the Ken Smith Slicks on my L2000 for a few months now and they just aren't doing it for me....Do I go full flats or go back to my comfort zone of rounds?

Ive not used rounds in years but the more I read about Boomers the more I think I might give them a go on a back up bass one day.  Good luck in your quest

I used the Slicks and loved them for that Stone Roses kinda vibe (1st album)  Im now on Elites Grounds and they are really doing it for me.  The growl of rounds without the tinny twangy top end but more going on than full on flats
