  1. Took my Orange Terror Bass MK1 to rehearsal last night to be met with the studios in house Ampeg fridge.  Excitedly plugged in.......pure mud :(  Ordered some rounds to help (this band doesnt suit my usual flats) and may look at valve changes in the OBT.  Very disappointed

I had the original MK1 amp for around 12 years, then all of a sudden I stopped liking the sound of it. It also sounded very muddy, even with new strings, treble turned up etc etc. Not sure if the amp had changed, or just my ears/tastes changed but I ended up selling it.

I then ordered one of the new MK2 amps, and I didn't like that either so it went back.

I still have the SP212 cab, but bought an Alpha Omega 500 head to go with it

Those amps are not flat with the knobs all at mid point. Try putting the bass at zero and the mid at max, then add bass and treble until it sounds decent.

I use one of these at a venue I play at regularly and I have to boost the mids and take the bass down to zero to get a usable sound onstage.

  2. Sure, ill bring my orange bass terror home from the studio tonight and lay something down
  3. Price drop to £575 due to ebay pricing. Also i am visiting Sheffield on Wednesday this week and then Walsall/Birmingham next Thursday if that helps anyone who may be interested but struggling with distance
  4. Chromes to me sound too much like rounds. I prefer the fenders as they mellow down nicely whereas the chromes seem to retain their metallic clank
  5. Back in the day they used to dish out £10 vouchers if you wrote a review of a purchase
  6. Is the Orange tiny terror the same size as the Bass Terror does anyone know?  Im after a new gig bag for my BT500 but nowhere seems to stock the OEM Orange gig bag for them

  7. I bought a vintage Ampeg fliptop from NKR Vintage and can vouch for their awesomeness
  8. Looking to move on my Fender Bassman 1200 as used by the Zutons (if you are interested :)). This is essentially the rebadged and improved Sunn 1200, a hybrid 2u rack mountable head. The head features 2 channels - channel 1 is the 'normal' channel and Channel 2 is the over drive channel. Each powered by a separate 12AX7 and blendable to give a really nice gritty, valvey driven type sound if thats your thing. Each channel has seperate input volumes, channel 2 has a further Gain option and then there is a blend pot to give real versatility. Further more a graphic EQ lets you really tailor the sound along with the onboard compressor. Recently serviced by Mike Powell of MPAV Services where a new volume pot was fitted along with the 4 output jacks. This is a seriously powerful head giving around 800w at 4ohms and the full 1200 at 2 ohms. It currently resides in a 4u flight case but ive also got a carpet covered 2u sleeve on the way for a more space friendly head :). As always collection would be from Bolton but i do travel around a bit so always up for meet ups etc. full pics to follow asap.

  10. No problem, he did a superb job on my Fender Bassman and his workshop had all sorts of eclectic musical equipment dotted round
  11. As above Mike at MPAV services Bolton take on all sorts of audio stuff, hifi, PA right through to Guitar/bass amps. Highly recomended
  12. My E numbered MIJ 57ri P has a pencil date on the neck (85) rather than a stamp? Do you have any pics?

  15. Fender Cabronita Bass – Made in Mexico and dates to May 2014 according to the serial. This one has been modded by myself to match the specs of the Limited Edition Borrocha and Porazzo versions in that I have upgraded the pickup to a TV Jones Supertron which gives a much improved string balance with the blade construction rather than the individual pole pieces. At the same time as this I took the opportunity to upgrade the wiring to a KioGon harness but swapping the usual cabronita .22 cap for a standard .47 cap to give a smoother, warmer tone. I’ve also swapped out the Fender badass copy bridge to a semi spiral bridge giving a more vintage vibe and again more akin to the ltd editions versions. This matches the bridge that comes on the ltd edition ones too. Ive had both the squier and the fender version and the neck on the fender is far superior, a real nice vintage type neck with a nice solid depth to it. The previous owner on this one took the laquer off the back of the neck to give a smooth played in feel. Furthemore the Fender version comes with the vintage style reverse tuners. I have fitted flatwounds to this which gives an awesome beefy growl of a tone. These basses are certainly ‘hotter’ that standard P basses and have a more grainy/growly tone especially through a nice valve amp. Collection would be from Bolton or can travel within reasonable distance for a basschat style meetup Trades/part ex - * Fender jaguar modern player (black/white/maple black block long scale one) * Yamaha BB434 in black * Squier 77 jazz bass (black/maple/white blocks * an Ampeg SVT Tube DI would be really handy right now! Cash sale preferred but just throwing it out there
  16. Had one for years, superb amps with one of the 'richest' tones ive had
  17. I know Ashdown isnt exactly an 'unsung hero' but for me their hidden gem, as it were, is the Spyder Dual Tube series. Ive never been a fan of their cabs but as a P bass/flats player the Spyders sound stunning through an array of cabs ive used over the years, the pinnacle being the Ampeg 212AV
  18. https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass/products/mikey Seen a few cheapo ebay basses turn up with a massive increase at Bass gallery recently! Ignore, different bass. D'OH

  20. Hmmm, if i can shift my Cabronita bass i could well be tempted by this!
  21. I moved on a MIJ 75RI jazz a while back. Advertised it on here but think it eventually went on FB Marketplace. Whilst it weighed an absolute tonne and was very (naturally) gig battered ive really regretted it ever since. There is one on Fender Fever at the moment but mine looked great with its natural roadware and the upgraded Wizard pickups. Id love it back
  22. So with my works systems being down today you may have realised i have a lot of spare time on my hands 🤣. Ive popped the neck…..interesting! Seems this is a PB57-55 looking at the neck stamp. The pocket stamp is prettt indeciferable seems 3TS for three tone sunbust which i strange as mines a 2TS 🤣
