    Putting together a neo-prog covers project with my guitarist mate @Witters. I thought it'd be hard to find personnel but he already has keen interest from a drummer and a keys player. We're thinking Porcupine Tree, It Bites, Quantum Pig, Fish, Frost*, Steven Wilson, Hogarth-era Marillion... I'm quite excited by this.

    A week ago I bought a Fender American Ultra and I can't believe how good this bass is.

      I have the Elite Precision (the version before the Ultra). It's a great bass except for the jack input which is a cheapo plastic component which failed a couple of years after I bought the bass new. Remember to always use right angled jacks as mine failed after I used a straight jack and it got knocked by accident.

    Took my Orange Terror Bass MK1 to rehearsal last night to be met with the studios in house Ampeg fridge.  Excitedly plugged in.......pure mud :(  Ordered some rounds to help (this band doesnt suit my usual flats) and may look at valve changes in the OBT.  Very disappointed

      Those amps are not flat with the knobs all at mid point. Try putting the bass at zero and the mid at max, then add bass and treble until it sounds decent.

       

      I use one of these at a venue I play at regularly and I have to boost the mids and take the bass down to zero to get a usable sound onstage.

    I've noticed my left ear was a bit muffled of late, so all this week I've been popping a few drops of Otex in each evening in an attempt to soften it all up... last evening I gave it a good flush out with some hot water, and now not only can I hear in glorious stereo again, but I've got the makings of a good sized candle. zzzzzzzbx3o48f1K6x6.gif.b2b3fc9149a80279e6c0387c2182a48e.gif

      I used to get mine syringed by the nurse at my local surgery. But a few years ago, after it took 6 weeks to get an appointment, I decided to do it myself. I got a ear bulb thingummywotsit, filled it with warm water and gently squirted it in my ear. It works like a charm and I now no longer need to wait forever for an appointment with the nurse.

    How can you safeguard against scams on Fb Marketplace?
    There's a bass for sale on there I really would like, but I don't know how to safeguard against getting scammed. 😟

      If you can't meet the person and pay cash, then don't buy it. You have no idea who you're dealing with. When I buy something on Facebook, I always go to meet them and pay cash.

      They sound great and are a breeze to install. The solderless connections make it really easy to change pickups, if you ever feel the urge.

    Should I sell my spare head? Been wondering for a while. I have a Markbass LM3 & a Markbass LM800. I generally use the LM3 for gigs etc, and the LM800 for practice. How many amps have you got? Ever thought of shifting them? Do I need two amps, or should I shop one in? Hmm…thoughts?

      I've never had an amp fail on me but I bought a GK MB 800 which had some distortion issues when I first got it. The problem was sorted but it made me a bit paranoid.

      So from that date I always brought a spare amp to gigs and left it in the car......just in case.

    I have accepted an offer from a friend to play in his karaoke band. I have to learn like 40 songs for tonight...

      I learned about 25 songs for a gig in an afternoon. Wrote out all the chords in the rehearsal room with the band. Drove to the gig, which was about 50 miles away, and realised that I'd left my notes in the rehearsal room (duh!).

       

      The Singer, who also played guitar, wrote out as many of the chords of the tunes as he could in the 15 mins before the gig.

       

      Amazingly, it went all right! They even asked me back.

    45-105 or 40-100 ?

     

    I've always played 45-105's but I was thinking of trying 40-100's, is there that much of a distinguishable difference between the two gauges?

      I own 3 Precisions. One has 40-100s fitted and the other two have 45-105's.

       

      There's no change in sound between the basses but the lighter gauge strings are easier to play.

      He just brought a little Markbass amp on stage with him. No huge 8x10 for Dave.

    Maybe time to book an appointment with the dentist. The repair he did on my broken tooth (he drilled out the filling and put in a new one, that was it) has failed miserably from day one...and that was about 2 months ago I have a huge hole in my tooth and tooth ache every day, for the last 6 weeks. But I hate dentists...

      I had a friend who went on tour with a singer who had a fear of dentists. He got severe toothache halfway through the tour and because he couldn't bare a visit to the dentist, asked my friend to pull out his tooth with a set of pliers.

       

      Which he did.

       

      Do you have any friends who are handy with a set of pliers?
