  1. All my straps are made by Heistercamp: black on the outside and lined with smooth leather on the inside that is a colour to match (or at least tone with) the relevant bass.  As all the basses are different shapes I find this the easiest way to ensure the right strap goes on the right bass.

I appreciate this is a first world solution....

  2. If it has to be Mono, and there are many cheaper alternatives that will do the job just fine (e.g. Gator and TGI), I would pass on the Sleeve as it's definitely no good for basses with angled headstocks, pus the padding is minimal on the sides, and the M80s as they are bulky.  Personally, I loved the convenience of the Vertigo.

franzbassist did well to get a lighter one at I guess around 4.3kg before changing the tuners.

I was lucky as Andertons had just taken delivery of a new shipment, so they brought out five different ones for me to try.  Two were absolute boat anchors, I'd guess 10.5-11lbs, but the rest were very reasonable.

  4. My P8 five is a superb instrument.  It's strung with La Bella through-body flats and is an absolute tone machine.  If you want a P shaped 5 string I would say it's the best option out there are the moment.

I've swapped out the tuners for Gotoh Res-O-Lites, which makes the bass bang on 9 lbs.  Also fitted Dunlop straplocks and filed the edges of the nut to take off the sharp corners, but other than that it's stock.  Tempted to swap the scratchplate to tort though...

  5. At about 1.14 in, what effect is this?  Octaver and fuzz, or synth bass perhaps?

I have found out that bassist Hagar Ben Ari uses:

    Boss OC-2 Octave

    Electro-Harmonix Micro Q-Tron envelope filter

    Electro-Harmonix Bass Micro Synth

    MXR La Machine CSP203 fuzz

Red Witch Zeus Bass Fuzz Suboctave

    Eventide Space Reverb

So I assume it's a combination of one or more of these.

    Any ideas?

  6. There is currently a four year wait on a new Wal, so the market for new basses can't be too bad.  In fact, they aren't even taking orders at the moment.

I'm just looking at the Gallery website now and the three single pickup fretless basses are all from the "budget" (i.e. semi production line) run that Wal did.  They aren't even active, so £7-8k for one of those seems truly exorbitant to me.

I guess they are hoping people will buy a bass that was made while Wal and Pete were still alive.

Are Picato still going? Has anyone used their rounds recently?

No, they went out of business quite a while back now.  You can still find some NOS around.  They are decent strings (were standard install on Wals for many years).

  8. I haven't had this long, just since last summer, and it's hardly been used in that time.  I realised after I bought it I need their micro, not mono, synth!

So, a mint condition pedal is available, with original PSU and box, for a decent saving on the new price of £139.  Postage is £5.

Brian has those, listed in his "Pickguards for various bass models" section.

    Awesome stuff, thank you!

EDIT: He has the passive, two knob, version listed.  I've messaged him to see if he has or can make the active five knob for me.

EDIT 2: Spoken to Brian. Am going to send my original to him to copy.  All is good.
