  1. Can anyone identify these tuners I’ve just found. I know they’re Hipshot Ultralight's but not the exact model

  2. Bit of an emergency. Dep required Tomorrow 12 midday 08/01/24 for paid rehearsal in Pontypridd South Wales paid half MU performance rate plus travel expenses (out of my own pocket)

I have all the dots and setlist with links to the tracks

I’ve dislocated my shoulder and broken my little finger falling down the stairs

  3. Putting together a neo-prog covers project with my guitarist mate @Witters. I thought it'd be hard to find personnel but he already has keen interest from a drummer and a keys player. We're thinking Porcupine Tree, It Bites, Quantum Pig, Fish, Frost*, Steven Wilson, Hogarth-era Marillion... I'm quite excited by this.

  5. In various locations across the country, railway workers are sacrificing their family Christmas time in order to perform vital upgrades to lines and infrastructure, improving efficiency and services to freight and travelling public alight. Spare a thought for these folks, up to their elbows in ballast and wiring and paperwork, as you tuck into your festive feast. I'll certainly be raising a glass to all my hardworking colleagues.👏🏻

And just in case anyone thinks I'm being sarky, no I'm 100% serious. I've done Xmas commissionings, and it's bloody hard work.

  6. Another ripping gig on Saturday night. Oh how I love playing ska and reggae. It's such happy music. 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤

  7. Finally found a horn player who likes the same material as our existing piano trio, i.e. what might be found on 60s Blue Note records.
I do wonder how this sort of thing will go down in the pubs we play in, though.

  8. Been busy working on bassthing.uk designing new bass t-shirts & hoodies etc

  9. Ska band's gig next Saturday is at a Conservative Club. Hmm, well a payday's a payday I suppose. Anyway... I've bought a special shirt for the occasion.

  10. A patient buyer, knowledgeable about international shipping/customs and an excellent master of the English language. I sold him my Safran fretless and I'd happily trade with Hellzero again.

  11. I am now a veteran here on BassChat. Does that just mean I'm old? 😉  😀

  12. New number plates on the bassmobile :D

Yes, there's no way I was going to do anything daft with the actual reg number, it's asking for trouble. As I said, it's identical to the old plate apart from the clef instead of the stars and UK instead of GB. I've still got the old plates just in case I need to put them back on in a hurry. I can't see that happening though (he said hopefully).

I think it's still OK on that part of the plate. It always used to be anyway... I guess I'll find out at the MOT

The letters and numbers are all the correct font, height, spacing etc. It's exactly the same as the old plate except for the clef in place of the stars.

I didn't go to the extent of an actual personalised number, but my old ones were really scruffy and getting water damaged, and I figured if I can't have my euro stars I'd have this instead :D

  16. Had a bit of an eye-opener on a bass-oriented Farcebook group this morning. My god, there are some selfish c**ts in this world.

Correction: It's left me feeling bruised and really quite down, and now doubting myself. Was I actually being selfish? Should I just STFU about it?

@Daz39 it was to do with strobe lighting effects at gigs, and the potential health hazards. I said:

"As a concert-goer, there is nothing more frustrating than turning up to an eagerly-anticipated gig only to find a 'warning, strobes will be used' sign at the door. I'm lucky in that I only find them extremely uncomfortable, but for someone with properly photo-sensitive epilepsy they might as well put up a sign that says "Don't bother coming in unless you want to bite your tongue, wet yourself and end up in A&E. Enjoy your journey home, sorry about all the money you've wasted". Why, in this era of the most marvellous available lighting effects, are such flashing lights still used, especially when it is so widely known that they can be extremely dangerous?"

Well. I wasn't expecting wall-to-wall empathy, but some of the hostility was quite unbelievable. Here are some particular highlights.

      • One person, a self proclaimed 'Hobby light designer', said that not only were strobe lights a "must", but that such warning signs should NOT be put outside the venues. He further suggested that people with epilepsy shouldn't be going to certain gigs at all.
      • Another said that not being able to tolerate strobes is a matter of "personal taste" -- he doubled down on that position when I pointed out that epilepsy is not a lifestyle choice, and told me to "act like an adult". He also seemed to think that by not liking strobes I was somehow trying to take away his personal freedoms.
      • Yet another said that I was trying to "control what little enjoyment the rest of us get from a great light show" and advised me to "take my sob story elsewhere". He then told me, without a trace of irony, that my "selfishness is beyond belief and disgusting!".

It's left me feeling bruised and really quite down.

  18. My first gig with goth/post punk band The InSect is on Friday at the Dublin Castle in Camden. Onstage about 8pm. https://www.facebook.com/events/248170544468197

  19. Flightradar is so cool. I've just watched some in-flight refuelling taking place over the North Sea.

Well, as we already know, the optimum number of basses to own can be expressed as x=n+1, where x is the optimum and n is the number of basses you already own.
