Been busy working on bassthing.uk designing new bass t-shirts & hoodies etc
-
Ska band's gig next Saturday is at a Conservative Club. Hmm, well a payday's a payday I suppose. Anyway... I've bought a special shirt for the occasion.
-
@2pods but that would involve me a} buying a Liverpool shirt and b} wearing a Liverpool shirt.

A patient buyer, knowledgeable about international shipping/customs and an excellent master of the English language. I sold him my Safran fretless and I'd happily trade with Hellzero again.

I am now a veteran here on BassChat. Does that just mean I'm old? 😉 😀

Yes, there's no way I was going to do anything daft with the actual reg number, it's asking for trouble. As I said, it's identical to the old plate apart from the clef instead of the stars and UK instead of GB. I've still got the old plates just in case I need to put them back on in a hurry. I can't see that happening though (he said hopefully).

Had a bit of an eye-opener on a bass-oriented Farcebook group this morning. My god, there are some selfish c**ts in this world.

@Daz39 it was to do with strobe lighting effects at gigs, and the potential health hazards. I said:
"As a concert-goer, there is nothing more frustrating than turning up to an eagerly-anticipated gig only to find a 'warning, strobes will be used' sign at the door. I'm lucky in that I only find them extremely uncomfortable, but for someone with properly photo-sensitive epilepsy they might as well put up a sign that says "Don't bother coming in unless you want to bite your tongue, wet yourself and end up in A&E. Enjoy your journey home, sorry about all the money you've wasted". Why, in this era of the most marvellous available lighting effects, are such flashing lights still used, especially when it is so widely known that they can be extremely dangerous?"
Well. I wasn't expecting wall-to-wall empathy, but some of the hostility was quite unbelievable. Here are some particular highlights.
- One person, a self proclaimed 'Hobby light designer', said that not only were strobe lights a "must", but that such warning signs should NOT be put outside the venues. He further suggested that people with epilepsy shouldn't be going to certain gigs at all.
- Another said that not being able to tolerate strobes is a matter of "personal taste" -- he doubled down on that position when I pointed out that epilepsy is not a lifestyle choice, and told me to "act like an adult". He also seemed to think that by not liking strobes I was somehow trying to take away his personal freedoms.
- Yet another said that I was trying to "control what little enjoyment the rest of us get from a great light show" and advised me to "take my sob story elsewhere". He then told me, without a trace of irony, that my "selfishness is beyond belief and disgusting!".
It's left me feeling bruised and really quite down.

My first gig with goth/post punk band The InSect is on Friday at the Dublin Castle in Camden. Onstage about 8pm. https://www.facebook.com/events/248170544468197

Flightradar is so cool. I've just watched some in-flight refuelling taking place over the North Sea.

I've noticed my left ear was a bit muffled of late, so all this week I've been popping a few drops of Otex in each evening in an attempt to soften it all up... last evening I gave it a good flush out with some hot water, and now not only can I hear in glorious stereo again, but I've got the makings of a good sized candle.
-
I can still get mine done at the treatment room at my local GP surgery. As long as I've been softening it up for a while (e.g. the aforementioned Otex, other softening methods are available) they're quite happy to do it and it costs me £00.00. If I hadn't had success last evening, I'd have been making an appointment.

I never realised how useful fret markers on the side of the neck were until I played a bass without them. Shortscale too. I sound like Les Dawson playing the piano.

@GlamBass74 do you have a link plz? I could do with some of those but I've been wary of getting the wrong thing.

I have a gig tomorrow. One of the songs we're playing is I Can't Make You Love Me. Question is: do I bring a fretless just for that 1 song (out of over 20)?
-
Might be needing a gigging head again soon and the Laney Digbeth 500 is tickling my pickle

Phone interview with an artist tomorrow for some studio & possibly live work!
