QUESTION!!
I am considering to pre-order a Baum Nidhogg bass (1 day pre-order time left ...). But I hate buying a bass without being able to play it beforehand ...
I play heavy crushing doom metal tuned in C and need a full warm and heavy sound, not a poppy bass sound. Does anyone know if this would be any good? Anyone got any experience using that bass for heavy music? Thanx a lot!! Cheerz

Totally worth watching just for Maria Doyle Kennedy's sultry, wonderful performance of "Never Loved A Man".

Had my 'growth talk' at work yesterday. A sort of career progression thing that must be really handy for the younger engineers especially.
Boss's first question (admittedly with his tongue firmly in his cheek): "So Rich, where do you see yourself in 5 years..?"
Me: "Retired."
Boss: "Want to expand your skillset? Anything you'd like to do in the meantime?"
Me: "Exactly what I'm doing now will suit me fine, ta."
End of talk.

Check out my recent cover of Hysteria by Muse:

Is it wrong to be proud of the fact I made my drummer physically sick with the high SPL of my Trace Elliot TE1200 + Barefaced Super Twin rig? 😲

Today is a very, very good day.

Haha @TheGreek unfortunately not! but for me it's better than that. I've got to keep it under my hat for another 3 weeks or so and that's going to be hard work.

A bit of tweakage to my JayRay fretless. As it was based on an OLP 'Ray, it was originally passive... I'd intended to either buy a Stinger preamp or make one on vero, but then I rediscovered the 2-band EQ from my old Yamaha RBX765 lurking in the spares box, so I've fitted that instead. I'd forgotten how powerful a preamp it is. Absolutely brought it to life. I love tinkering with stuff, especially when it turns out as well as this has.

Incoming NBD... an itch I couldn't resist scratching, but I fear I might regret it...

Bit of an emergency. Dep required Tomorrow 12 midday 08/01/24 for paid rehearsal in Pontypridd South Wales paid half MU performance rate plus travel expenses (out of my own pocket)
I have all the dots and setlist with links to the tracks
I’ve dislocated my shoulder and broken my little finger falling down the stairs

Putting together a neo-prog covers project with my guitarist mate @Witters. I thought it'd be hard to find personnel but he already has keen interest from a drummer and a keys player. We're thinking Porcupine Tree, It Bites, Quantum Pig, Fish, Frost*, Steven Wilson, Hogarth-era Marillion... I'm quite excited by this.

I knew it was to good to be true. Drummer has announced that he can't rehearse the same night as everyone else, and doesn't want to do any covers but wants to do original material. None of us have ever met, never mind played together, but already he's diving straight into compositions. Surely it'd be better to do one cover to start with, to make sure we all get on and are capable? We've got to walk before we can run.

In various locations across the country, railway workers are sacrificing their family Christmas time in order to perform vital upgrades to lines and infrastructure, improving efficiency and services to freight and travelling public alight. Spare a thought for these folks, up to their elbows in ballast and wiring and paperwork, as you tuck into your festive feast. I'll certainly be raising a glass to all my hardworking colleagues.👏🏻
And just in case anyone thinks I'm being sarky, no I'm 100% serious. I've done Xmas commissionings, and it's bloody hard work.

Finally found a horn player who likes the same material as our existing piano trio, i.e. what might be found on 60s Blue Note records.
I do wonder how this sort of thing will go down in the pubs we play in, though. -
Best news I've heard all year.
