1. Update: M13 has been bagged, but the cabs are still up for grabs. Surely there's a London based player who wants them..?
2. All of this has been in storage for a few years. We're now moving so it needs to go. Pair of tatty cabs 1 is an ABM Mini 4x8, the other is a Bass Centre "overstock" 4x8. Both 600w @ 8 Ohms, exactly same dimensions so fine to use as a mini stack. They've been gigged a lot and stored for some time so I can't vouch for the health of the drivers, but they've been in a dry space surrounded by gear in soft cases so I suspect they're probably ok. Line 6 M13 modeller Gigbag included. This was a staple of my guitar and bass gigging rigs for many years. Currently has no PSU so I can't test it, and from memory there was 1 dodgy stomp switch (not a difficult fix - I previously replaced a couple of them). Just need it all gone - if you can collect from E11 it's yours!
3. NOW SOLD I bought a Squier Precision Bass Special V some years ago as a backup bass, but hated the wide string spacing so converted it to a 6 string - new bridge, new nut, headstock drilled and extra machine head added. As you can see in the photos, it's got some knocks and bumps, but it plays fairly well. Fun bass for someone who wants to mess around with a sixer on a tight budget. I'm in East London, but often down in Surrey/Hants, and happy to meet up if it's convenient. I'm after cash (and getting it out of the way as I have too much gear), but would also consider trade for a preamp pedal with cash in whichever direction (e.g. Eden WTDI, Sansamp, etc)
4. When we started my function band, we went out for £600 - £800 as a 5 piece playing 1 set of 45mins and 1 of an hour. These days, 6 years and a load of gigs further on, we go out as a 4 piece playing 3 x 40mins plus encores for £1150, plus travel if it's more than 50 miles away. Less than £100 a man seems too cheap to me, so somewhere from £600 up?
5. I nearly sold my car to buy this after I played at the gallery a while back. Gutted I still don't have the money - hope it finds a good home!
6. So, I'm in the process of making a squier precision special V into a six string (never liked the wide string spacing and thought this might solve the issue). I'm happy filing the slots myself but am trying to find the right size nut. I bought a bone blank on eBay but it's too thick. Don't fancy sawing it as I'd only be taking off 3mm (bound to run into issues), and filing/sanding it down will take hours with hand tools. Any suggestions?
7. I make the verse a bar of 15/8 followed by a bar of 7/8. IE: 1e+a 2e+a 3e+a 4e+a 1e+a 2e+a 3e+a 4e 1e+a 2e+a 3e+a 4e At least, I managed to count along with it that way...
8. Once I know the key, the notes are scale/chord tones - so in C I don't think of open E as E, but the root of iim and as the fifth of the V chord. Seems more useful to think of it that way since 95% of the tunes I play are completely diatonic.
9. Couple of kids I teach have the short scale flea bass. They're really not half bad basses It's dirt cheap, super light, the action is low and they sound pretty decent. Worth a look? A nice soapbar pickup would drop in there and sound wicked. http://www.thomann.de/gb/flea_bass_junior_the_wild_one.htm
10. I own/have owned several bits of behringer gear. Their tremolo pedal is great - sounds like any other mid priced trem for less than half the money. Their headphone amps are also solid - loads of studios have the powerplay 8 way ones which seem to go on forever. On the other hand, I've owned 2 delays, both of which died inside 6 months, and could never get the tuner to track reliably. The bits that work are great value, but factoring in the stuff that hasn't lasted makes them much less cost effective. Equally, my Markbass gear is the best stuff I've ever bought (and super reliable) but cost a few bob. So much comes down to trust - I've never played a bad squier, so often recommend then to kids I teach. Whereas I've played several Gibsons that were utter dogs, despite £700+ pricetags, so I tend to give them a wide berth...
11.
I spent years gigging in original bands all around Europe. My drummer has played all over the world. We both have the same stories of great gigs great time and no money. I always played in cover bands at the same time to pay the bills. One thing I learned is you can't eat creditability
Seconded! I play in an originals band and a covers band. The covers band play upwards of 50 gigs a year - weddings, corporate parties, etc. Always for decent money and usually to packed dance floors. My originals band play math/post rock and are signed to an American indie label. We play gigs as and when we can, sometimes to nobody, sometimes to decent crowds (T in The Park 2011 is still a highlight). We love it and a small core following 'get' what we do but the likelihood of it ever becoming lucrative enough to make a living is remote. The function work, on other hand, constitutes more than half my income. Personally, I've never wanted to inflict original material on a covers audience - they want The Killers and Adele, not tapping in 13/8 - but I can see that another band could blur that boundary more.
