I dunno I've seen some Fenders which look completely fake relicing too - I think the problem is that given a choice folk go "for the more is better" - when as @wateroftyne has demonstraited sometimes less is way way more

Agree. That’s basically the body relic’ing I’d have with a neck down to bare wood and oiled on the back. The only time I like a lot is if there’s another finish underneath. Like oly white over pink paisley.

Looks like you were having a blast in those pics. Well done. What is the band ?

    Dave

They’re called Funeral For a Friend from S.Wales. They were big on the mid 00’s and just reformed with most of that era one up and they’re have a whale of a time.

these pics are show 3 and 4 for me playing and I managed to get my bass out with us so I felt a lot more comfortable. I was in a band with Gav (jumping photo) so I fit right in. Their bassist Boosh is an absolute beast of a player.

  3. Not quite last night 😂 but went on tour with a band I guitar tech for. I’d learned a load of their set before we left because of Covid. I ended up playing the last 4 shows of the tour. Sheffield, Bristol, Bournemouth O2 Academy’s and Shepherds Bush empire. Headlining. I hadn’t played a show for a year 😂. What an experience!

FWIW, lovely as the oval ultralites are, they’d look a bit odd on a Limelight (IMO).

Resolites are equally lovely, and look authentic (but aren’t oval, obv.)

    You’re probably right tbh.

Strangely that’s one thing that I don’t like, I know the neck would be worn if it was a heavy relic and kinda matches but it’s put me off buying a few custom shops before, I like a clean neck 🙂

I really don’t like the feel of a gloss neck anymore.

I asked them to build me a '66 dot & bound Jazz. They could, but only if I sourced the dot & bound neck.

Yeah this seems to be hard to find. I send this to Mark and he went through what can be done. Think I’ll send him some lollipop tuners.

“Shell pink body light/medium relic - OK

Single split P (thinking one from Monty’s) - can you send me a link to it? I would recommend starting with ours though, that way you can put it back to standard if you wanted to sell it in the future

    Parchment scratch plate - OK

Hipshot Kickass bridge (nickel) - OK

Hipshot lollypop ultralite tuners - we can't get these, only Gotoh resolite tuners

    RW fretboard - OK

White binding with dots (if possible) - we can't get these necks anymore, sorry

    P nut width 40-42mm - choice is 38mm (Jazz) or 41.7mm (P)

Back of the neck to be fully relic’d to the wood on the main playing area - ok”

@nash I'll be driving past you in late June for a gig in Hereford with two Limelight Ps in the van, if you are still pondering on it then I'd be happy to drop in so you can have a play (through your old Super Bassman even) 😄

I was trying to remember who I sold the SB to! I’ve just done 4 massive shows using a full Ampeg rig and forgot how good a big rig is. I want it back 😂. That would be class to have a go.

  8. I’ve just been given an old school Mesa 1516 cab. By all accounts the drivers are bust. I’ll be retolexing it all as well.

    anyway. Has anyone fitted one with neodymium drivers for the whole lot? 2 x 6, 1 x 10 and 1 x 15.
