  1. Bands I've been in have always been songs chosen by full consensus.

    ย

If just one member doesn't want to play a particular song - that's it - it's not even rehearsed.

    ย

Being in a covers band is all about every member enjoying what you all play together, otherwise - IMO - absolutely no point in continuing with the considerable effort of getting to a gig ๐Ÿ˜†

    ย

Takes a bit of time to get a decent set together, but when you're all happy playing what you've picked to play... result can be great ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

    ย

    ย

And FWIW - I've mostly been in bands that play tunes yer Granny can whistle along to -ย  the majority of the time ๐Ÿ˜

  2. A number of years ago I had first dibs on a 1979 Wal Pro11e in natural finish on here, my dream bass for a lonnnng time.

    ย

Incredibly, and completely out of the blue, a day or so later job losses were announced for a large section of our workforce, including me ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

    ย

With four kids to support I couldn't justify the ยฃ1700 price tag.. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

    ย

It went to a fellow basschatter of course, and I pm'd him to congratulate him on his new acquisition.

    ย

But I've never quite got over missing out on that bass...

    Oh my....๐Ÿคฉ

    ย

Well, it obviously needs to be much cheaper since you ask, I'm suggesting around ยฃ500 should do the trick and then this beauty could be mine ๐Ÿ˜ย

    ย

Only kidding of course ๐Ÿคญ that is one lovely bass, GLWTS๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿ˜œ

  4. I missed out on tickets โ˜น๏ธ

    ย

Saw them last year, and the horn section, choreography, and most of all THAT drummer have elevated the band to possibly their best inception IMO.

    ย

MK and ML are obviously enjoying the new onstage vibe, their collective playing was absolutely brilliant.

    ย

And yeh, Mark King doesn't just do slap, his finger playing is superb - and then he goes and sings over the top of it!

Saw some of the ABC one. Love the album, enjoyed the interview sections, but felt the show was sorely lacking something (although couldn't put my finger on what).

For me, it was the lack of bass guitar in the mix. I saw these at a local 80's festival last year, and the band were outstanding, and so was the bassist.

I was curious to see how good they'd be, and I thought they were really good ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

  6. I would say (certainly with a covers band) it totally depends on which song the fretless bass is part of.

    ย

Some songs would demand it, some not.

    ย

On certain songs from the Paul Young 'No Parlez' and beyond stuff, Pino Palladino played fretless straight with little to no vibrato.

    Jack Bruce with Cream too.ย

    ย

If it enhances what's going on with the bassline, fair enough.

    ย

Can't say it's ever bugged me watching someone playing fretless with vibrato though..

Thatโ€™s a cracking Pino line isnโ€™t it. A few members of a band I used to play with did ย a lockdown recording with me using a borrowed squire vm fretless, which I really liked.

Nicely done Mike, it's a great line to play ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Our guitarist plays the muted trumpet solo on his Roland guitar synth, we see some puzzled looks on faces when he does that on guitar ๐Ÿคญ
