Thanks. Price is dropped here (on basschat) partially because it's not in UK. I'm not familiar to send used things since Brexit, but I guess there is, like here, import fees? but not full VAT as I'm not a pro seller selling a new bass...

Yes the tax on full value. It's basically 20% extra which is a real shame.

  2. Posted elsewhere on other threads...but here is a SB5000 I bought used from this forum a while ago. Love it. Always now keep an eye out for other SB Carvins as I love the shape.

What distance was that from the bridge ?

Sorry I don't have exact measurements but it was basically the width of the installed bartolini and just a fraction more as the gap between bridge and pickup. On the geb35 this was a custom dual coil nordstrand with coil tap from beepre1272186950_gwb35body.thumb.jpg.d973b7692d0a417893f3dff060881aab.jpgPXL_20201203_174131368.thumb.jpg.de1f2320e1660001f3ddb01cedaae84e.jpg

  4. Shame to see Patty go  I have a TMB35 that I changed tuners for lower weight as found on here some used ones cheaper. And some Aguilar pickups but the work to route and new scratch plate would likely be too much normally but I thought what the hell. Easily my most played bass until I got the ehb1005sms (had a 1006ms and I have a 1005ms).

If you can get a used Ibanez ehb short scale I'd say go for it.

Having dabbled in (and subsequently rejected) the E-C thing I got a lot out of working through parts of The Advancing Guitarist by Mick Goodrick; there's a couple of chapters that have some really heavy exercises on voice leading and some different ways of voicing chords (drop-2, etc) that might open up some new avenues for you - I found that working on spread triad voicings gave me a lot of useful material that could be applied even in a non-jazz situation.

I was also going to mention the Tim Miller/Goodrich book too Creative Chordal Harmony for Guitar generic modal compression. I've worked through most of the book a few times and applied the shapes that could be played on 5 string and just chose a few favourites of both open and clusters that I both like the sound and don't cripple my hands playing. Thought it may be a bit out there as a choice but worth a look maybe.

  6. I really play 5 with a high C. Never comped a singer though practise chords and voice leading quite a bit.

My first influence for chords on bass was Oteil Burbridge and notice he has lots of new content cropping up. Haven't checked it out yet though

Andres Rot is a good example of a bassist that comps a singer. He has loads of videos and a few instructional ones with Scott's Bass Lessons. Although if you know you're basic triads, inversions and how to harmonise typical modes/scales then you might not get much from them.

Think Todd Johnson had some material on chords/comping but is mainly a 6 string player. Should be able to do most of it the same though.

Now you're just showing off...  👍

Cuts to wide shot of room - all furniture, carpets, curtains and clothing are in Sea Foam Green 😂

Thanks to @SumOne the sea foam family got bigger...  I've had a EHB1506ms before and currently have the EHB1005sms but always wanted the EHB1005ms in sea foam obviously.

I think the thread reflects this as a lot of the suggestions on here are dead or retired!

I agree with a lot of names on here and many are my heroes too, but some recent ones (over the last 20 years) I would have are:

    Thaddeus "Terry" Tribbett

    Joe Cleveland

    Robin Mullarkey

    Michael League

I was going to say Thaddeus. And Adam Blackstone.

Whether he counts as session or not...but Gene Perez.

  9. Looking to join or form a band after a few years hiatus (had 3 young kids...). Prefer the funkier side of things. Prefer funk like Lettuce, jazz like Wayne Krantz/Tim miler, acid jazz like Incognito/Jamiroquai, r&b/Gospel like Kirk Franklin, soul like  Motown like...Motown, Latin like Irakere or world/African music like Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba but open to seeing what's out there.

I've been playing on and off for 28 years. Did a few years of jazz at a conservatoire many years ago (don't hold it against me). Taught bass. Played in original and cover bands before. Good equipment.

To set expectations in terms of commitment I really want to get playing in a band again but around family and work being realistic, that's an evening a week rehearsing and maybe a gig or two a month or so at weekends. I just can't do gigs every weekend, although I'd like to :)

In Buckingham so open to a short drivable radius around here.

Do Burners not have super tight string spacing? I had a green 5 string bought from this parish many years ago. 16mm string spacing. Didn’t keep it long for that reason, though top quality luthiery. Still have a BT5 & 6 with much better 18mm spacing.

A 5 string burner in green. Seafoam green like Hadrien's?

I've been looking for a used one but convinced there are no others out there in that colour way. Or they never come up for sale at least.
