1. Hi all Hoping somebody can tell me something about a bass I've picked up recently. I can't seem to find any background to it online etc. Hohner Phoenix DLX active 4 string bass (no pic yet) in natural finish. Unusual electronics in that the active circuitry and battery compartment are all hidden behind a screwed in cover plate. It plays well and really suits my setup so I'm not interested in people telling me how much they dislike them etc!!! Would love to know roughly age, price/quality bracket, background etc More brains & experience can't hurt... Ta __________________ Coully Keeping the spaces between the notes...
2. Bass stacks and crossovers -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At risk of sounding naive, I have a question about using speakers of different sizes in a stack (say 1x15 and 4x8 as an example). If in a PA you would use an active crossover to direct the sound to the most appropriate speaker (bass/mid/high to the appropriate box) why would you not do this in a bass rig?? Speakers with tweeters or HF compression drivers normally have a crossover network internally but with separate speakers the rule seems to be to drive them with exactly the same frequency range regardless. Has anyone experimented with doing this and if so, what were the benefits or drawbacks? How did you set the rig up? Are there pre-amps or amps which support this kind of approach? Thanks in advance
3. Hi everyone - my name is Iain Coull and I'm an active player in and around the Cheshire & Merseyside area. I currently play in a covers band called Two Hats which do a real mix of rock and blues - Free, Bad Company, The Who, Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Healy, etc etc - and have previously played for a few years with Sauce (pop covers) and Drive NorthWest (Rock & Blues) as well as sessions, deps etc. I'm a finger player & strictly 4 string, totally self taught & still improving (I think...) Use a Hohner Firebird DLX active bass I picked up for next to nothing & a Yamaha active bass depending on my mood through a Line 6 Lowdown 300 Pro. I also have a Line 6 LD15 practice amp. I'm actively looking for a new rig (lightweight) & ways of improving the audibility of what I play on stage due to the beginnings of some hearing issues - yes I'm getting better earplugs soon. Hope to talk to some of you soon. Cheers Iain
