Elvis fan? Stewblack, if I'm right you're an Elvis Costello fan. In this case can you explain his receipt of an OBE? Not just why he got one but also why he accepted it, as I don't believe his "my mum told me to" story for a nanosecond, mainly because of his unfathomable ego.
I normally like to be positive but this bothers me somewhat.

I saw him live about 2-3 years ago. Just when I thought the gig was over he dismissed his band and played on solo for ages and it felt like a complete ego trip. People started to leave. It put me right off him. His real contribution to music was 40 years ago - it seems odd to me that he would be honoured now, when you consider all the other bands and individuals that made the late 70's and early 80's such a rich time musically.
