      Very nice!

  2. Why can’t I buy coloured pickup covers for a jazz bass, that aren’t black, white or cream?

Ooh fanx! Their site won’t load properly on my phone though, will have a look later. 👍🏻😊

  3. Ernie Ball Stainless flats for 5 string bass - 25 squids on Amazon. And they sound marvellous.

Just ordered a set, never tried flats on my fiver before, or on an active bass.

Good price that. Thanks for the steer. Just ordered a spare set.

I'd like a medium scale set for the recently acquired 33" Chyla 5er but I can't see how I can ask if they're available.

      Help!!

  4. Jamiroquai @ Victorious Festival last night - Paul Turner is an absolute machine.

  5. Does anyone know what brand of strings Ibanez put on their SR305's? Only asking so I don't make the mistake of buying any - played for an hour on Sunday and now totally dead.

Are you saying that these strings were on the bass from new? It's worth noting that in this case, they may have been on the bass for months before arriving at your own paws :)

Try a set of XT coated strings from D'Addario :)

    3. Grassie

      Grassie

@Dood do you use them? If so what’s the lifespan like? I’m assuming you’re usually a busy man… 😁

Ive had Elixirs in the past, impressed with those.

    4. Dood

      Dood

Funnily, I've been using them on my teaching basses (thus no sweaty evenings lol) but I've recently put a set on a gigging bass rather than my usual Pro Steels. I have a gig tonight that might be a hot one, so I'll have some ideas over the weekend!
Obviously with all the cold weather = no sweaty mits, strings have been lasting ages, but, I do have hands that kill strings quickly after long drenching 2 hour gig sets, so I'd expect a hit on string life generally.

I've been using D'addario for many years and there's certainly other brands I have used that have died significantly faster.

Elixir are good strings, a good choice too.

  6. Going to try out BEAD tuning on my Kiloton, because I’m too tight to buy a 5er.

Hm.  Wondering if you might be OK tuning the whole lot down a semitone...  give you that low Bb.

    3. Grassie

      Grassie

Some of the songs we do are without the piper, so are in standard tuning. I'm gonna leave it as BEAD and see how I get on. :)

Done that on my sire jazz bass, purchased a 135 B string and took them all down one.

  7. Giving the Kiloton another chance. It's an easy player and that's half the problem... :)

  8. Just discovered Big Wreck. Superb. Bass player is fantastic. That’s it. I don’t know why I haven’t heard them before.

you watched the Ian Allison 8/12 string bass video too? I hadn't heard of them either but they're great!

    2. Grassie

      Grassie

Yes! Ha ha! Amazing isn’t it - how something like that 12 string video can lead to the discovery of something great like BW. 😁

    3. andydye

      andydye

totally, that's kinda how music works though isn't it, one thing leads you to another and then you're off into the unknown

love Ian Allilson too, he's great to listen to

  9. Just made a list of all the basses I’ve owned - 20 over 28 years. That’s OK, isn’t it? 😎

      BillyBass

Sweetwate has a few white JB-2s and publishes their respective weights:

      https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JB2TrRSB--g-and-l-tribute-jb-2-bass-guitar-sonic-blue

They all seem reasonable, not too light or too heavy.

My newer candy apple red Kiloton is a little under 4.5 kg, which is lighter than the older 'Irish Ale' Kilotons.

    3. BillyBass

      BillyBass

I bought my first 5 string just two weeks after I got the Kiloton and promptly put it back in the rack, to. be picked up again when I am used to the fiver.

But, I loved it.  Nice neck and lovely tone from that big humbucker.  I'm looking forward to picking it up again when I've got used to the fiver.

  14. Just tried out one of those newer SUB series Stingrays - quite underwhelming...

Took me two hours to set my new (to me) EB-3 this morning after picking it up yesterday evening. My first experience with a 3 pointer, first thing I did was take the strings off to give it a good clean. Second thing I did was pick the saddles and bridge up off the floor after it fell apart.

    3. bartelby

      bartelby

      Sounds exactly like my experience.
I shall be getting a Babicz bridge at some point…

    4. W1_Pro

      W1_Pro

I know I'm probably a bit of an outlier here, and I completely understand that folks have issues with these, but I've had the same three pointer on my 1987 TBird since...well, 1987. I've never had to do much to it.  The action was low in 1987, it's still low now. On the other hand, I tried a hipshot on my NR bird a few years ago, and that was awful. Bloody great clunky thing that would have needed countersinking to get the action to the height it was with the original three pointer. I now have a Babicz on there which is a very nice piece of metalwork, but still quite idiosyncratic in its own way. Anyway, just my experience, completely accept that people might think I'm talking out of my hat.

It was ok. Same as usual really, some good acts, some were let down by diabolical sound (Duran Duran), the food was fine for the most part, 36 for a pint, pretty busy though, around 60,000 there I reckon.

  17. Thinking of selling the neck from my VM 70’s P bass (maple board) and replacing it with a maple J neck. Hit me up if anyone wants to trade. 😊

    1. Nibody

      Nibody

There's a seller on ebay selling amber tinted black block maple Jazz necks for about £40 - just got one for a Jazz bitser and it was pretty decent quality (that way if you decide to move you'r P on, you can stick the original neck back on it) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203347780016
