Im in tone heaven. Ampeg valve amp, Pbass and flatwounds. Who would of thought they went well together. I'm pretty sure I'm the first to discover this combination 😉 haha.

Played a Fender Original 50s Precision yesterday in Guitarguitar Glasgow... VERY impressed...

It was my first bass, albeit back in the late 80s when they were "made in Japan" models. It got sold off years ago and I decided to get a replacement once I was back on my feet, opting for another Japanese Fender 50s P-bass. Interestingly the Japanese models now (or mine at least) don't have that wide neck, opting for a more conventional C shape. I did like the old neck but mine is still pretty cool.

They say if you get a tattoo you should consider what it's going to look like when you're old... but if I got one, I'd know instantly...

@discreet I'm with you on facial piercings. I don't mind a small nose stud on some people but too much more is not to my tastes. And I really don't like those stretcher earrings which give people a giant earlobe. I guess we all have our limits!

@SpondonBassed, an interesting response. To clarify on my earlier post, the last couple of surveys I've read suggest that amongst 18-25s most now have one and perhaps more bizarrely 51% of Police Officers are now tattooed. So I think the cult thing has moved on a little, although I suspect you are probably correct in that a nation the majority are not tattooed still. Things do move in fads so I wonder if the next generation will reject them? I preferred them when they were less widespread but I think since the likes of David Beckham they have moved more mainstream. I'm well aware of the history with prison tattoos etc and it makes for some interesting, albeit occasionally very dark history. I get that many people do not like them. Personally I cover mine for work and I fully subscribe to the theory if you want to be different these days, don't have one. The line which made me laugh recently was neck tattoos (an area I'd never go) used to be a symbol of strength and possibly law breaking, whereas now it usually means "I ride a vegan unicycle!"

Complimenting a studio on a fine bass head, I was told "yes, that model is popular with a lot of youngsters too!". Slightly lost for words

Tattoos still seem to be a subject everyone has a strong opinion on. When I started, tattoos were back street shops in bigger towns where only bikers, sailors & sex workers went. I was part of that Guns N Roses generation where we wanted to look like rock stars. Now there are tattoo parlours next to Starbucks in most towns & the majority of folk seem to have at least one. I do worry that prominent large tattoos are cropping up very quickly on younger people but ultimately your skin holds out for years & once you get really old, it doesn't look great anyway so you may as well go for it, if someone really wants one. I finish my second full sleeve at the end of this month.

@Happy Jack I need to see how things lie at home first but a good salesman could have seen me buy it and worry about the former later on.
