1. I like that a lot, not sure it needs proper vocals. Best Of Luck. R.
2. I have put together a few bitsa 4 string Fender Jazz basses over the years and had an Overwater 5 made for me but this time I'm going to get more involved and go somewhere between the two. I have bought a Jazz Bass 5 string style Ash body from the Bass Doc and ordered a set of Nordstrand Big Splits from Bass Direct, the body has a neck pocket size of 70mm slightly less then a Fender or Lakland this suits me fine as I want to keep the string spacing narrow, the pups are a custom order in 17mm rather then the usual 19mm. Bass Doc (Howard) has kindly offered to route the body for the pups and make me a suitable pickguard before sending it on to me. Hers's a pic of the body, at the moment it has a stained finish to it but I'll probably change that at some point. R.
3. Thanks for all the replies, the search goes on, so far I have e-mailed Wizard to see if they can do a 5 string version of thier Jazz pick-ups and there is a set of Nordstrands for sale on here that I'm trying to get dimensions of, they sound interesting but my be too small for the routing. R.
4.
My vote would go to Wizards if they do them but if not Nordstrand. This is only based on the fact that i had one in my old DJ5 and it did sound warm with a nice low end. Well, the bridge pup did as the neck was a P but i was very impressed with the 5NJFS i had. I also think Fralins would be great, based on what ive read but i've not tried thier Jazz pups yet. They are a bit expensive though.
Cheers Dave, I was told my JO5 has Falins in it when I bought it and it does sound good, I might fire an e-mail off to Wizard and see what they say re J5 pups. I have heard good words about Nordstrand and there is a pair for sale at the mo'
5.
Just noticed MartyBRebelMC is selling a pair of Nordstrands - check out his ad in the 'musically related' section. H.
Hi Howard just had a look at the ad, they are short compared to the standard fit I'm guessing it would just be a question of picking up some covers as the poles are in the usual place?
6.
I keep seeing this thread as pub recommendations
Just back from the pub but not one I would recommend
7. Interesting stuff. thanks all. Can you get Wizard J's for 5 strings? I couldn't see them on the site. MEC's I hadn't considered, I'll look them up. Not so sure about the rails look to be honest. R.
8. See I knew I needed to talk to you guys I'm planning on keeping the string spacing small I have a USA bridge with the choice of pacings and I hadn't thought about that restricting what pups I can use! I think the Barts i had were called 9J, they were used passively so maybe that's why I didn't find them very inspiriing. I'd like to keep it passive if at all possible, I'm planning on using a stacked knob plate I have lying about. A beefed up Fender tone would best discribe the sound I'm after. Cheers R.
9. Ok so I'm putting together a custom 5 string Jazz Bass type project and need to decide on the pick-ups to use but have no idea what to use, it's going to be passive, as for sound I want a warm rounded but defined bass tone. I had some Delano pups in a Jazz for a while and liked the sound of them but went off the look of those big single pole pieces. I have also had a st of Barts in the past but didn't think muxh of them. Your thoughts would be appreciated. R.

11. Lovely lovely looking bass, I was on the look out for one of these in sparkly black for ages, got inpatient and spent the money on a JO5 instead recently R.
12. I wonder how many Basschatters have one of these, maybe we need a thread in the Porn section R.
13. I have a very very battered one of these, although mine has through body stringing, built like a tank and sounds very good Good Luck. R.

15. Cheers chaps that will give me something to look at tomorrow when I am meant to be working!
16. oooOOO post a link please I would like to see his work. R.
17. It's interesting that Lakland put 3 pots on the Skyline JO and stacked ones on the more expensive US JO's, I guess the stacked pots cost a bit more.
18. It does seem like a more flexible opion tone wise then the usual 3 know version, does anyone know why Fender dropped the idea in the mid 60's?
19. It all helps, the more input the better I like the sound of my passive JO5 and like the 35" scale, as you say it give a nice B string and I get on well with the added tension that comes with the longer scale length if only the neck wasn't quite so wide.
20.
I have a Sandberg JJ5. You are welcome to come over and have a play. I live near Sandhurst, between the M4 and M3. Marc
Thanks Marc I might just take you up on that offer if I can't find one a tad closer to home to try out. How do you rate the JJ5? it's what iIwould be looking at getting. R.
21. In my quest to find a five string Jazz bass with a narrow string spacing at the bridge I was wondering if there are any shops that have a Sandberg 5 string Jazz in stock or maybe a kind Basschatters in the London, Kent or Luton areas that has one I could try. Any thoughts on them would also be appreciated. Thanks In Advance. R.
22.
Thanks mate! And this is what the Jazz looks like now...
Very nice indeed, I like the stacked knob look, what's the switch for?
23. Bugger! dumped it last weekend as it was taking up too much room and there didn't seem to be any interest. Sorry. R.
