Lots of upside down players:
Richard Dale
Albert King
The bloke in the Bay City Rollers
The bloke in OMD - right-handed and right-handed bass strung upside down
Doves bassist
etc etc
I've been an OMD fan for a long time & I've never noticed that before!

Out of the Ricks I owned my early 70s checkerboard/horseshoe/toaster one was the worst.
An absolute dog of a bass.
Swapped it for a Wal.

Jethro Tull and he died a couple of hundred years ago!
I actually preferred his earlier inventing the seed drill period to the later stuff.

I think the perfect instrument has to grow on you. I bought a l2000 tribute thinking, at the time, it would be a great workhorse, but we never quite got along. This has happened to me a couple of times. But, the ones I count on have never impressed me that much at first glance.Plus, I am convinced that you have to gig with a bass under different circumstances (pop, rock, country, pit work) to really know what you’ve got.
Also, what you imagine might be your dream bass may turn out to be anything but once you've had one.
A Rickenbacker 4001 was my dream bass when I started playing. When I actually got one I couldn't have been more disappointed.

Quite surprised to see that this has reached p.2 without anyone mentioning Vince Furnier ...
Alice Cooper was originally the band's name, not the singer's.

I probably would go for a band simply called Nigel. Unless Colin were looking for a bassist.
I was in a band called "Frank's Parents" for a while.

Yeah, I'd never join a band that was called Nigel.

I suspect many bassists of my generation learned from Lemmy's propulsive playing on Hawkwind's 'Space Ritual'
Yep, this & the Sabbath compilation "We Sold Our Souls For Rock"N"Roll" is where it all began for me.

Toby is the best guitar finisher in the UK IMO. He's done some stunning work for a friend of mine.

Tony cheats. He de-tunes the upper string on the bass side of the Stick. When Adrian ate my chili @ Roxy & Dukes I told him I played Stick and said if we ever got together I promise not to play E.T.
So are all guitarists that use anything other than standard tuning "cheating" as well?

It's a 10 string Stick on "Elephant Talk"... 🤓

Gibson finishes are a bit of a yawn-fest IMO, but I really like Pelham Blue.

I presume the Sutherland brothers were the same from "Sutherland Brothers and Quiver"... saw them, late 1974, I think.
No, their names are Iain & Gavin.

Yep, dead ringer for a Washburn Stage.

You try getting 5 plumbers out on a Saturday night for 4 hours and see what they charge you.
That's completely different.
I've needed a plumber a few times over the years, can't recall ever needing a pub band.

I used to have one of those combos. It sounds like a Kamen era SM300 Combo. It might be an SMC if there is a compressor.
I had just enough strength to carry it down a flight of stairs and into the taxi and then carry it out of the taxi and walk 50 years or so into the venue. That's a very long walk to be fair.

I think I've found the perfect bass for me.
I was looking to buy a bass for a birthday present for myself. I'd already got a few nice instruments, and I've played a lot more but after I visited F Bass, I knew that I needed to buy one. My BN5 is seriously the best instrument I've played. It plays and sounds amazing.
Absolutely superb basses these.
