The 1176 needs a bass demo!
I totally agree. I need a new compressor and this one looks like a contender.

Out of interest, what do you use as a sound module for these?

I always loved Janek Gwizdala's first Fodera. When he was selling it I was tempted to sell my car to buy it 🤣

There are so many that I love, but I think Venice Queen is my favourite. Not completely sure why, but it just builds so well.

This is an Alpher Mako, with a 1 piece sapele body, ask neck & Macassar ebony fingerboard.
They have burned the body to give it the sunburst effect.
All hardware is hipshot & it has a Nordstrand dual soap bar pick up, with a hidden 3 way selector switch for single coil or both coils.
Chris & Al make some of the best instrument in the world in my opinion. I also have another fretted 4 string & a guitar. They are also both awesome guys.

Really great questions here!
Alternating fingers - My advice would be yes try to always alternative your fingers while learning this will make playing fast lines easier in the future. There are some exceptions, and in the end it doesn't actually matter.
Right hand position - Where you position you right hand will massively effect the tone produced. As a general rule of thumb, the closer to the neck you pluck the string the warmer and rounder the tone, the closer to the bridge the sharper and tighter tone.
Genre of music - Play whatever you want to play. Whatever music you are drawn to will make you enjoy playing more. I would suggest learning some basic theory too, scales & arpeggios as a start.

Wow some one is going to get this bargain of the century with this!
Sorry that the sale is forced by circumstances.

I don't know. The room only held around 100-120 people. You would think that there would be that many musicians (or just bass players) in the city or surrounding areas (I went up from Stoke), who would be interested in it.
You can kind of understand why so many people come on tour and don't go north of London- when they do, people don't turn out.
Anyway, Janek is playing with Bob Reynolds at Band on the Wall in October.
Is Janek in Bob's band for this tour? Thats great news, I didn't know that. Thanks

Yup no real bass on the recording at all. Still a super cool bass line.
If anyone manages to put together a pedal signal chain sounding like that synth bass sound it goes to later in the song it would be awesome if they shared it.

Amen to that, especially the last part.
Again, spot on.
"Explosive" playing can be another word for drawing attention to oneself/showing off, or being too busy, or even trying to force a way of doing things on the rest of the band. None of these are qualities that will get you a gig unless the band happens to be in sympathy with your approach.
A lot of bands don't want a "genius" on the bass, with good reason. They want someone who does the job and fulfils the role. Yes, people like Jaco P are brilliant, push the boundaries, extend what was considered possible for the instrument, etc. But would you want them in your band, drawing focus away from everyone else and even working against what the band is trying to achieve?
If Jaco could be reincarnated and turned up for an audition with your band, would you hire him? I wouldn't, although I would happily acknowledge his brilliance. Geniuses are often best admired from afar.
Allright, but that was 1rst rehearsal where nobody exactly kney what everybody can, so i think it's not bad to show your skills at first time, then you can talk it over and change the maintance
We are quite far into this thread. When I first read it, I had the impression that it was a pre audition question.
Now I get the idea you have been told you weren't hired because you played fretless and you are trying to figure out if that was the real reason?

Sadly that is how most bands see bass. It has a function in the band of holding down the rhythm and defining the chord changes. To be fair that is what most songs call for in most genres. If someone else is soloing they really just want to know where the bass is going to be so the soloist or singer can concentrate on what they are doing and know if they get lost someone in the band is there to help them get back to where they need to be.
I don't think this is always a sad thing. The bass holds so much power, we can change the chord, and we can change the whole feel of the groove.
To use a cheesy quote, "with great power comes great responsibility". This is very true of the bass guitars role in a band. When auditioning for a band it's important to know what they are looking for from a bassist. If they want some one to play the fundamentals and keep the band together, excellent there are plenty of bass players (including myself) who are more than happy to do that.
If you want to play a different role in the band, adding more to the melody for example, it's important that the band know that, otherwise there's going to be a lot of frustration for all involved.

I looking to buy my first synth. I am stuck between a Moog, or possibly buying into NI Komplete & getting a separate minotaur. Is there anywhere similar to Basschat when instruments switch hands between good people?
I'm going to put a wanted ad up on Basschat, but wondered if I can reach a wider audience somewhere.

With this lot it didn't look like anything really came from the heart, from a desire to create anything outstanding, more from a desire to make a product that would get them the maximum amount of wedge! Still, each to their own...
This is totally agree with. A lot of popular music is made with the intention of making money and seeking fame, as opposed to creating art. It's a shame, but some one has to please the masses I guess.
The slack will get picked up by niche musicians and appreciated by those that understand it .

I think it very much depends on the band, and also how versatile you are on fretless.
Some bands have members that have rigid visions and if you show up with anything but a P bass, you will never be in the band.

Yup, the Glasgow store is also great. A few years ago I was in the market for a new cabinet and a fuzz pedal. I hadn't brought my own bass with me. When they asked what I played and it happened to be a p bass with flats, the salesman let me use his own personal early 70's P bass which he had in the back. Needless to say I spent over a grand that day. If they have what I need in stock I will buy from them.
