It is NOT photo flame, it is real quilted maple.
If it is, it has no lustre and is under 1mm thick (I had the neck off my old BBG4 to check this).

I'll be looking out for a used one too, though it'll be interesting to see how they stand the test of time 🤔
I think if you disregard that they are headless and have a unique shape, they are not particularly outstanding in terms of spec (Bartolini Mk1s have never sounded great in anything i've played), but in terms of value for spec - yes nothing to beat it. I expect used to be around £500.

Regular claw clipping and accessible scratchposts in my house of 4 mentalist felines has prevented this for me so far.

I have sent this to my Dad, who's name is not going to be a surprise.

Does it have the Ferrari engine?
My suggestion used all of the same parts found on the Dingwall. If going for a custom build you could spec for same body materials and still save £700.
My experience of Dingwalls is that the neck is the key part of the instrument. I've had a few budget/midrange multiscales (Gear4Music, Ibanez) and they try, but really can't quite get it right.

Even after a PLEK session you'd have £700 more in your pocket than buying Dingwall.
Here, check out my Ferrari, I saved £100k !

I can confirm that @Manton Customs basses are very fine indeed.
I played the 6 string they had with the single MM humbucker. Visually not for me, but it was very well made and sounded/played great.

I fell in love with an Ibanez EHB1005SMS at Fairdeal Music, which was on a STUNNING show deal, but I don't really have the money, and if I'm honest I don't really like the aesthetics of them. The feel was incredible though, and I managed to get a wide range of tones out of it. Slightly let down by crappy knobs, but they're easily changed.
That wasn't Fair Deal. That was www.scan.co.uk.
I managed about 3 hours of milling around before I had truly seen everything. Nothing for me this time - a few 'show deals' were just what the price is everywhere else (i'm looking at YOU Cort).
Good to catch up with @AndyTravis and @walshy though.

Anyone know if Bass Direct have a stand there?
100% will not be there.

Am going Saturday AM with potential to go Sun as well.
n.b. Ashdown have pulled out as their NAMM gear is stuck in the US.

I'll be there on Saturday, probably aim to spring out of bed early and be there at the start - hoping to ignore all the guitars and try some multiscale basses and saying hi to @Manton Customs
Looking forward to it, should I leave my wallet at home?
You still need food. There is usually a fantastic caterer doing top notch curry/rice.

Renault - Had a Megane that had so many problems. Renault tried to charge me for well established manufacturing defaults. Sold it to WBAC and saw it was scrapped a year later.
o2 - Tried to double charge the last month on a contract exit, threatened me with legal action until I proved to them there are 12 months in a year, not 13.
Scottish Power - Refused to take dated GPS tagged photos of meter reading when I moved in, insisted on using massively inflated estimates. Awful customer service hold music.

Sounds about right for a first run of models that have literally just come through the door - would have expected BassDirect to at least check the pots when unpacking but that's a 2 minute job.
I'm sure if they sell well enough you'll see more versions (multi-scale, fretless etc.)
They were photographed and then repacked. They would have been checked before being sent out however.

Spotted this yesterday online and was by chance going to BassDirect that day anyway.
I tried it out - here's my summary from 5 mins with it:
Good
Good setup
Sounded better than expected (compared to EHBs with Barts)
Cool shape, love the contouring
Pretty thick top
Fairly light
Pretty cheap for the spec
Bad
Several loose pots
Tuners were a bit too tight to adjust easily
Satin finish will very likely be quite fragile (same as Ibanez EHBs), make this with a gloss finish and multiscale and i'd get one.

I'll be there Sunday as it's in my hometown ! I used to work about 200 yards from the building. Find me loitering around the Ashdown stand on Sunday.

This show has been in Birmingham for I think 10+ years, it was previously at New Bingley Hall (city centre) until it spontaneously combusted in 2022.

Am I the only person who makes sure a bass is spotlessly clean when selling it?
Same, but also every day it is in my house.

FYI a medium sized paintbrush is ideal for dusting without removing strings.

I'm also amicable to attending again after last year's.

The new RM EVO III is due to land in the UK late Feb/early March (from the big man himself).

Ooooh, and if you scan the QR code, you get the product page for the new Rootmaster head, even though they've hidden the link on the website. Can't find the one for the OriginAL though.
I did this too 🤣. I'm sure the website home page will be updated in the next couple of days.
Interestingly they only have the 800w version there which is black, I imagine the 500w will be silver. I have an EVO II and absolutely do not need an upgrade to the EVO III. Will I somehow justify it to myself ? Probably.
EDIT: They have updated: https://ashdownmusic.com/pages/namm-2024- 1

Thanks, saved me digging pics out.
It's a super thin veneer, maybe attached via a clever process that allows it to be moulded to contours without cracking?
Is it a flame maple veneer or very good photo flame is the question. It has no depth to it under light whereas normal flame would do, even when very thin.
EDIT: I'm going with photo flame as the dark/light patches never alter under changing light angles.
