Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Mussolini are all dead.
Lukashenko, Kim Jong-un, Putin and Erdogan are still in power. This is a dictators update -
Just started a new course of antidepressants...
I couldn't function with the previous ones - these supposedly have fewer side effects but the list is far from short...including a deterioration for the first 5 days!! Minimum course is 6 months.
The thought of this is making me depressed.

It seems to be quite an inexact science, always an element of 'suck it and see' involved. I have noticed improvements in a change of meds, but never felt fully sorted. In fact I need to call the Dr. today- I had to stop therapy because my home situation was so bad for a couple of years that they couldn't tell what was what. The dust hadn't settled on that mess before the world got so weird no-one can tell what's what! Still, one must to do whatever one can.

I was just about to list a bass for sale. I looked at the pictures with a heavy heart. So, I didn’t press the “post” button. I’m going to bed instead.

Hello. Is there any studio/sideman bass player here? I want to ask what producers and engineers want from bass players today. I mean which basses, amps, effects and all king of gear is a must for session/studio player to provide the best demanding sounds and effortless quality in the stage/studio? Really need to change my gear to be most versatile for any scenario as possible. Many thanks!

It's not really about the gear, and there is a high chance you will be recorded direct.
Have a good sounding bass, well set up, and in good working order.
Then be on time, be pleasant, know your parts, and provide them with the best take with the minimum of fuss.
There will be variations on the theme, but one can't generalise- each session and producer needs to be approached on an individual basis, and in that case we can't advise you- you'll need to speak to the them, not us!

I did! I hope you realise that you are a tiny bit responsible for that!
Updates... It's a beautiful instrument, that's for sure. Very comfortable too, so no worries there. String mute is awesome! I don't understand the factory string gauges- as expected the inner two feel and sound much lighter than the outer. Saw that coming anyway, so will be going to a normal set! I am used to working around pickup covers, but the one here will have to go to get everything I want from the bass, not least for palm muting, which is possible around the built in mute, but the cover lands right under my thumb, blocking plucking access! It was 50/50 as to whether it would stay anyway. The only niggle is a dodgy fret or two, which I assume is from an after market job- if not then Ric's work was poor but some marks from fret files hint at an amateur attempt! I'm very fortunate to live round the corner from our own @KiOgon who has cast his expert eye over all my basses at some point. If he can get it playing half as well as my others I'll be chuffed!

Happy New Year, bass players. What's your major bass playing plan for 2018?
Mine is to get back to gigging every weekend and gear-wise maybe acquire a nice 12-string.

Hi Marc, ultimately, I'd like a Ric 4003! I have lots of options though- my big rig is already two preamps blended in mono, so I can split those to separate cabs via the stereo power amp, which also has the option for a crossover. I have an FEA dual band comp with variable crossover point and high/low outputs which may feature significantly, and also an LS-2. So many options, but it is mainly about high/low and dirty/clean type stuff- a bit like Rick-O-Sound really!
