  1. If you are looking for a Jazz type Then The Sire V3 V5 or V7 depending on how much you want to spend. IMHO the difference in level of what you get between the V5 and the V7 is not worth it . I have a V3 5 string that for what they cost is an amazing instrument although they can run heavy but I found one around 9 pounds. The V5 and V7 can be somewhat lighter. And the B string on All of my Sire 5 strings V3 V5 and V7 is very good. Also the Pickups are head and shoulders above any bass in their price range including Fender. I have a Squier CV 70's jazz it is about as heavy as my Sire V3 but the Sire is much better overall.
  2. I would suggest the C4 also There are hundreds of user made Patched you can listen to and load with the click of the mouse . It tracks great and sounds great as well. You can set 6 presets with no external control needed just push a button to get to the second 3 . And there are good Moog patches already on the Site . I had an SY-1 for a cup of coffee then moved it on because there were very few useable or repeatable sounds in there. Another good one is the EHX Bass Mono Synth. You can set 9 patches and it is easy to set up. Programming is just twisting knobs and pressing save. Much better than the Synth 9 or the SY-1.
  3. I would add that My Sire V3 gen2 5 string IMHO has a good B string and my V7 5 string has an even better B string. The only 5's I have with Better B are my Multi Scale's and my BTB1825 also my Yamaha TRB 1005. My 35"scale Harley Benton has a decent B string for a very inexpensive 5er, But the hardware is pretty much crap.
  4. Many Years ago I had an original SB-2 with 2 jazz pickups it was a nice bass but kind of thin sounding. I traded it for a loaded Fender American Jazz In Ocean Turquoise (probably spelled that wrong). That was a Very Bad trade for me as the Fender was Lifeless sounding even with all the extras trying to make it work.
  5. As 5 strings go I would not rule out a 35" scale just for the much improved B. I have a Sire V3 and a V7 Both are much better quality than what you might think for what they cost. I had a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz and it was very heavy and was returned in short order. For 34" scale I would Suggest and Ibanez SR655 as it has a decent B string is relatively light and has Nordstrand designed Pickups with an Ibanez Preamp. But it can be switched out to passive and the sound either way is very good. Also Harley Benton make some decent models for short money.
  6. The Vintage Pro In My Humble Opinion actually sounds and feels better than any of the Gibson's I have played. I found a very light one 8.6 pounds.
  7. Do you think those pickups would be a good match for a Sterling Ray 4 HH double Humbucker setup?
  8. To be clear The Pro 4 had a preamp with passive pickups (There is a difference). But it did have a much better Bridge and was neck through. I also believe it had different pickups than the MIK / MIC model. I have owned all Models mentioned so far except the one with Gibson Pickups. I would agree that the Vintage PRO is the way to go out of what is available today. The other Active one was a decent bass in it's own right but there were some Issues with some of the Preamps and could end up just being converted to Passive instead of replacing the Pre.
  9. Could you just make it Nighttrain1127
