  1. Thank you for both for your comments out this post in talk bass and everyone says the same so looks like the sadowsky preamp is a winner The elite jazz in at the moment has both cut and boost and mid but tbh even though when playing solo I can get a decent unique sound I find myself not using the cut or mid controls….ever when either playing with a band or sitting in the mix of a song which is why also I am opting to change it
  2. Hello all Im looking to replace my preamp in my Fender Jazz Elite. Although i find nothing particular wrong with the fender preamp i just find that it lacks some kick that most onboard preamps out there. One i was looking i was looking at was the Sadowsky onboard 4 knob system preamp. Anybody got any experiences with this preamp. It sounds great to what i hear on youtube and demos etc.... The Vintage tone control, does this only work for when the bass is in passive i presume? I also would I be able to connect another battery to this preamp for more headroom or is one battery sufficient? Another preamp i was looking at was the EMG BQC system although i would have to change the pick ups to EMG aswell, if i were to do that i would probably go for EMG JVX Jazz pickups. Anybody got any thoughts and experience on these two preamp systems. Any help would be most appreciated
  3. Hello Guys Need some help, I'm having right mare trying to find the right size bushes for my Vintera 60s Roasted Maple Jazz Neck which MIM Has anyone else had this problem. I know the vintage sizes are a bit awkward but the Fenders vintage bushes from their website which I received today, and they don't fit as they are to big!. Fender emailed me and said they should fit the neck holes....well they dont! At the moment ill take any type of bushes and even dont mind buying a whole set of tuning machines from other brands if it means I can get the right size bushes! Below is the spec for Vinteras Necks. Any help on this would be mostly appreciated. P.S before it gets mentioned I have tried copper tape around my original bushes and they just work loose all the time. I want a snug right fit!
  4. Hello People I need help on choosing my next bass amp. I have previously posted about my Trace Elliot SMX GP12 having problems on this forum, well after three fixes and back and fourth to an amp tech. The amp gave out again today at band practise. So now as much as I love the amp and the sound it gives me, i think it's time to let go and move on. Only problem is I'm not sure which amp or manufacture to go with and where its not going to be burning a hole (too much) in my pocket. I need an amp that gives me a punchy bass and treble sound that I got from the Trace Elliot Pre Shape, my sound is a mix between Mark King and Marcus Miller. Bass with enough punch and treble so you can hear every string being hit. Few things i will miss from the Trace is the Graphic EQ, built in compression and the EQ balance mix. The EQ balance mix is such a great tool for when cutting through certain frequencies more when you are playing venues with not so great acoustics. So if theres any amps out there that people have had experience with which would give me the same qualities as my Trace Elliott than any suggestions would be most appreciated.
  5. Hello everyone I hoping I can get some advice on this as I cant seem to find anything on the internet about my intermittent problem with my Trace Elliot head I have a Trace Elliot GP12 SMX 300, awesome amp but has been the bairn of my life for problems!. It has blown twice (transistors went!) and its been fixed and serviced to get it running again by a trusted amp electronics technician. The problem that I'm having now is the amp keeps cutting out while I'm in mid practise with the band. I play with an active bass so I do not push the amp very much (doesn't go past 4 on the volume) The only way to describe this is that is just stops my bass from making sound and then it producing a very harsh earth buzz that comes from the speakers (the sound is similar to that off your thumb being put over a guitar jack while its plugged into a distorted guitar amp) This sound is horrific. But when I turned the amp off at the back and switch back on (in a matter of seconds) its fine again. I'm completely baffled at this and so is the guy that has fixed my amp. The only thing I found similar to this problem is on this site from a guy having similar issues with his GP12 SMX 250 combo where his cut out out at a gig but made a screeching noise instead of horrible hum like I get through mine. That guys problem people said its the amps valve but I'm very uncertain on this. One thing I will mention, is that it seems that the amp only does this when im practicing and when its cranked up abit, as when im at home practising at suitable levels (i played for two hours straight once to test this) it didnt do it! Any help will be most appreciated! Kind Regards Phil
