Thanks for the input. Im not at all sure of the year Jeff built it. With the help from this forum im slowly gathering info. The control cavity does look original? Im wondering if Jeff put any dates in the neck pocket, maybe ill take a look

Its a Jeff Finch bass. I knew Jeff from the age of 12 unti he sadly died, but lost touch during the period when he was making and repairing guitars. He lived just down the road from me. I bought the bass for sentimental reasons. I wish he was still around to tell me about this instrument
  3. Sorry to bring up this subject again but after a lot of detective work ive been unable to find any history of this fine bass. Think it was purchased by Peter Tappern a band leader who passed away in 2017 but other than that? I knew Jeff from a young lad untill he sadly passed away but lost touch during the years this bass would have been made which i guess would be early 90,s? If anybody recognises the bass or knows someone who might i will be extremly grateful
  4. I knew Jeff Finch from the age of 12. He and his wife were mates with my sister. I had not seen him for many years but by a chance meet discovered he lived just down the rd from me in St Osyth. I last saw him just a week before he sadly died. He was a perfectionist and could turn his hand to anything. Just recently i have sourced a Finch bass the craftsmanship is just typical of jeff. I would be most gratefull if anybody recognises the guitar and knows any of its history
  5. Jack i knew your Grandad from age 12 till i attended his funeral. My sister Pat was a mate of jeffs and this is how i got to meet him. My early memorys, i swapped a scalextric set for a bass which he later borrowed back, that was the last i saw of it!

He would turn his hand to anything, with perfection.

I lost touch when you moved to Theydon Bois. but purely by chance. bumped into him one day at The Co Op Brightlingsea where he was shopping with his Mother, i would never have remembered him but he remembered me. Turned out he was living just down the road to me in Clacton.

He popped in occasison for a cup of tea and a cheese roll, last time he was here he checked out a guitar for me. He would speak about the basses he made.

I was with Jeff a week or so before he died. We were in a local club watching Dave Edwards and Denns Sratten, he was in great spirits. It was a great shock when i heard the news

He was an extremly talented person and i have many stories to tell. and some pictures. my sister has lots of  memories.

When things settle down we can get together  and .an hav a rabit.

    Meanwhile stay safe and well
