  1. Ahoy! Now then. Thinking about the above upgrade to a 2018 Player Series Precision. (Like on my icon pic). Have the parts, including a black scratchplate in my shopping basket at Thomann, just waiting to pull the trigger. I would like a beefed-up vintage tone, with the option of growl when required. Had a VM Jazz with rounds on, it was a right clang-fest, hence the change to a P Bass. I have done the usual zillion hours research but would still be very interested to hear from anyone who has done/is thinking of/has an opinion. In summary: Fitting an EMG Geezer Butler passive PB set into a MIM Precision, with Roto Jazz 77 strings. Many thanks for your time, Mark.
  2. Ah! Sounds just the job. That has probably saved me 1000 hours on research. My genuine thanks to you.
  3. Ayup. Now then. Picked up a nice 2018 MIM P bass in Sage Green Metallic. After a Stranglers sound primarily. What do you lasses/lads reckon? I quite like the sound of the Geezer Butler EMG on YouTube but not heard it in real life. In summary, I’d like the rumble of a Precision with the option for a decent distorted sound when required. Many thanks!
  4. Hi All, Just fitted a Hipshot Supertone to my Epiphone EB-0 so thought I’d do a few lines of review. Very easy to fit, the bridge is supplied with two sets of bolts with different size threads. The EB-0 required the larger, “chunkier” thread, fitted in moments. I also took the opportunity to clean and condition the fretboard. Strings re-fitted with no problems, if you only have one wind around the peg, you may have to replace the strings as the Hipshot requires more string between ball-end and saddle. I have every string set as low as possible, I’d still prefer the action to be lower, but bridges to facilitate this aren’t out there. In my opinion, this upgrade is worth doing. The main advantage is I can now set the intonation accurately. The factory fit is millimetres out, so it’s not possible with standard-gauge strings. In addition, the increased distance to saddle from ball-end means no more cloth winding over the saddle on the E. Additional plus points include louder acoustically and sounds slightly more punchy-clearer amplified. Not a cheap upgrade, but accurate tuning, intonation and slightly lower action worth it for me. Any further mod recommendations welcomed, I am particularly interested in the Gotoh Mudbucker option. Regards!
