  1. Up for sale is this fantastic cab. I literally have only used it once, as I was using a smaller cab for my gigging. It is in as new condition. Perfect for anything up to medium sized gigs (and any bigger you'd have dedicated PA support). It is made with four 10" drivers and 1" ceramic tweeter. The cab is 8 Ohm, and rated at 600W The cab is very loud and has an incredibly tight response. As it's 8 Ohm, you can pair it with another cab to get the full power from your amp. Weighs approx 30kg, which is on the light side of things for a 4x10. Priced at a fair price to sell. Collection only near Royston, although I frequently travel to Hendon in North London and can take it in my car. Get in touch if you have any questions.
  2. Hi I've been playing for on and off 20 years. I'm versatile in a range of genres, but would love to play funk, jazz and other genres that gives the bass a chance for a meaningful role! I have been playing the DB for a lot less time but similarly competent. Can improvise and read charts. Looking for something serious but not professional as I have to fit in with work and kids. I have plenty of gigging experience and all the gear (too much gear!) and transport. Based in the South Cambs/ Herts area Cheers!

  4. Hi Sharon, I recently had a similar conundrum. I found a pre-owned stagg mt-300 which has been good for me as it is adjustable and higher than most bar stools. Others have had luck with the IKEA Franklin stool but the 74cm version (of course depending on how tall you are) Cheers
  5. Thinning the herd, so up for sale is this gorgeous Ray4 HH in Olive Green. It is a beautiful deep colour if you see it in the flesh. This is in showroom condition with no dings and hardly played. They are currently retailing for £469 so get a bargain for a fraction of the price of a US stingray. The twin humbuckers mean it is incredibly versatile, from the classic stingray tone, all the way to a jazz/p bass. The neck is super smooth, and has a J-bass profile. Comes with a basic gigbag. Reduced to £275 ono for quick sale Collection much preferred from near Royston, or I am in North London once a week. Come around to try it out. Can drive a reasonable distance if necessary. If postage insisted, is at buyers expense and I would have to source a box. 6. This actually looks super useful - thanks. That said, postage from this place is £11!!!!!!
  7. Love that this is getting into MacGyver territory:
  8. Nope tried that. It's a bit of a design flaw
  9. Would rather not for two reasons: one I'm not a tinkerer and don't want to open it up and two, I may rarely need it so so still need occasional access. But great suggestion!
  10. This sounds exactly what I'm after. Has all the ingredients: it works, it's cheap, it's a bodge, and it involves booze
  11. Hey chatters So on my TC electronic BH800 there are a number of small toggle switches. The ones at the front are protected by rails, but the one at the back (pictured) is not only exposed, but is the most protruding thing at the back of the amp. I am just waiting for it to snap off when the amp is in a bag. Does anyone have any non permanent solutions that can protect it? I hardly use the switch itself, so it can be a solution that means the switch is covered. Also, I don't care if it looks like a complete bodge, so long as it works. Thoughts? Thanks Toby
  12. Hiya 'chatters I have recently picked up a steal of a deal on a Sterling Ray4 HH (the dual humbucker) and plan to mod it up as a project. The first step is sourcing better pickups than the stock ones which are known to be rubbish. As the bass has the 5 way switch I cannot use some of the pickups that are only 2 wire, but instead need 4 wire pickups. Additionally, I would rather not spend more on the mods than the bass itself, particularly because I have to buy 2! So I'm after good quality pickups that don't break the bank. The Kent Armstrongs seem to fit the bill - anyone have any experience with them? Cheers Toby
  13. I had a similar experience with too good to be true prices on HX stomps - I asked for them to send a photo which included something with the current date on it and strangely had radio silence. Also noticed different sellers with the same profile picture for other HX stomps. I think it's all scams as they are items you would consider getting posted due to the relative inexpense of posting a small item versus the faff of the drive. Avoid at all costs and report it, even if it doesn't lead to anything it might get them to think twice. BUT (and a big but) if you are really set on buying it, get them to verify in ways that they cannot fake e.g. a photo with the item and today's newspaper - but if alarm bells are ringing, that's probably a good sign to steer clear.
  14. thanks @fretmeister - I had that thought about the aux input but my concern was that it, as you say, is designed for low output devices like ipods etc and perhaps is a subpar interface to the power amp. By the way you have described, it doesn't appear that you have tried this?
  15. Hi - I don't know if this best belongs here or in the amp section. I hope this is not a super simple question that has been answered many times before... I have a TC BH800 amp which, unfortunately does not have an FX return loop. I just didn't think I would need one when I bought it recently. I would like to run a Helix (still deciding which model) into the amp. I am aware that the best option is to run into the FX return, but that is not an option for me. I don't want to have to purchase a new amp (I only just got the TC!). So my only real option is to run it into the front input and use the amp's preamp. What advice do you have to get the best out of the Helix through this signal path? Do you keep the gain low on the TC preamp and presumably run the EQ flat on the preamp? Some say not to run amp models if going this way, but so long as the TC preamp is running fairly flat and it doesn't sound muddy then I wouldn't see a problem with this? Or is this all doomed to failure!?! Thanks all, Toby
  16. There is ebony one for sale on eBay at the moment. A gorgeous model https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lakland-44-64-GZ-Skyline-bass-guitar-translucent-purple-p-j-ebony-board-/144025140377?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
  17. I'm really happy that this thread appeared - as a proud owner of a 55-02 I'm surprised that there is not much Lakland love on this site. I wonder why? Is it that they are just not popular, or that it is our hidden secret? I picked mine up second hand about a year ago, as I wanted a bass that would be an easy transition between 4 to 5, and most 5ers have much more narrow string spacing. Played a few of them in the Bass Gallery and fell in love with the neck and the tone. For quality is easily on par with my MIA Fender Jazz. It is so rich and full in tone. It doesn't have a unique tone, I admit - It doesn't imitate other basses - rather it gets in the ballpark but then adds some high-fidelity with the LH3 preamp. Compared to other 35" scale basses it doesn't feel all that different to 34" (that said, technical playing down the lower frets does feel a little bit of a stretch and can be a bit tiring). One thing I have noticed is that most of the 55-02s I see around on the web are on maple fretboards - it's almost like this is the default fretboard material for 55-02s. But interesting that many Lakies on this thread are rosewood. I always wonder whether the maple is that much better for this pickup combo (and no, I don't want to get into that debate)? Anyway, thanks for the thread! Toby
  18. Update -my guitar tech got the bottom of the issue and solved it. It turns out that the pickup cavity, whilst shielded was not grounded. We ran a wire from a pot in the rear cavity to the pickup cavity and screwed it down. Instant blissful silence!
  19. Hi Basschatters, This is another one of those ,"my bass makes a noise" threads - apologies in advance but I thought I could try to mine the collective wisdom here! I wonder what the experience of other lakland owners is. My 55-02 with the lakland pickups and Lh3 preamp works perfectly on the bridge pickup and is dead silent when not being played. However, when on the neck pickup there is a perceptible hum that goes away when I touch the strings, bridge or any other component in the cavity. I've checked with a guitar tech- everything is grounded properly (although I note that small wars are fought over whether this issue is a grounding or shielding issue). Just in case there was a ground loop we tried to ground direct to the input jack, but no luck for it to disappear. It's certainly not extremely noisy and not a deal breaker for gigging. But if recording etc it would be a problem. I should say it is only bad with the volume turned up on full, and can be further emphasized by boosting the mids. However it's not a preamp issue as it is still there in passive mode. The cavity is shielded, and the neck pickup is a split coil humbucker in a single coil housing so should be silent. Do other lakland owners have this issue? it has cropped up from time to time on Talkbass, so it's not an unheard of issue. If so how did you address it? Any non-lakland owners have thoughts? If it was a shielding issue then surely it would occur on both pickups... Thanks Toby
  20. Hey Basschatters, Here is a fantastic condition (I would put as 9.5 out of 10) rare Ibanez 5 string. They don't make this model anymore - my theory is that the combo of bubinga and rosewood made this a CITES nightmare, so the following models ditched these gorgeous woods. The photos do not do it justice - the bubinga has a rich red warmth, and I think the bass oozes class. I have owned her from new in 2015. This has the CND Nordstrand licensed pickups that are also on the 655 and similar models. It is the reverse P and J setup. They are really clear and rich. It has the standard 3 band Ibanez preamp. The switch is an active/passive switch, and it is a true passive bypass. I think the PUPs sound beautiful in passive mode, but extra crisp with the preamp engaged. These easily compete with the full-fat US Nordstrands (read some talkbass forums that rave about them). String spacing is 16.5mm and it has 24 frets and 34 inch scale. It has one of those super fast Ibanez necks. On the scales it weighs 4.2kg. I'm located in South Cambridgeshire, in a village near Royston (about an hour from London). Pickup preferred but can post at cost to buyer. This bass has never been gigged, and hardly leaves the house. I have been meticulous not to damage the wood with my thumb etc. The ONLY mark I could find is on the edge at the base of the instrument, and is an almost imperceptible 2 indents in the wood. I've tried to photograph it, and only one of them even comes up. So I would put it in almost as new condition. The reason for selling is that I've recently bought another 5 string, and have a one out one in policy. Price is £450. I think this is a very fair price, so there is not a whole lot of wiggle room. But do get in touch if you'd like to discuss. For your information, these are the details on it: IBANEZ SR755-NTF FEATURES: SR4 5pc Jatoba/Bubinga neck Bubinga top/Mahogany body Rosewood fretboard w/Abalone oval inlay Medium frets Accu-cast B300 bridge Nordstrand CND P/J pickups Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band eq w/Eq bypass switch (passive tone control on treble pot) Black matte hardware Please get in touch if you have any questions, or are interested in a socially distanced play. 22. I'm so glad I wasn't there.
  23. Which one? I like how this thread started with bass discussion and is turning into the finer points of boundaries in the home counties...
  24. You understand the pain of explaining it!
