I got an Ampeg Micro-CL with the 210 cab. Classic, affordable tones with no problems keeping up with a drummer. Gigged it (with pa) over the weekend. Very portable

It does, but there's a big gap between 2020 and October of 2023, and there's a lot of gaps in the years before. Most of the content since October consists of nothing more than a picture of some exotic bass with a link to the website home page; there's no trace of any review whatsoever. You'd think someone founding a new bass magazine, which would be a rarity in itself nowadays, would at least try to find an original angle, instead of 'the history of Fender' and 'Jaco Pastorius'. My guess is: the FB page existed as a run of the mill bass content page, under a different name (you can even find the original profile picture form 2014 at the bottom of the feed), posting pictures of exotic basses to gather some likes. Someone bought the page last October, knowing it would reach a couple of thousand people who or interested in bass guitar, changed the title to Bass Review Magazine and put together a website and some previews of a magazine - none of this being all too difficult for someone with a bit of experience in graphic and/or web design - and posted some 'content' to create the impression of an actual upstart. I'm not from the UK so I might be wrong, but I'd guess it would be very, very weird if a new bass magazine was founded without a) anyone from this forum being involved or at least knowing someone who is involved and b) the founder doing any direct marketing on this forum. Anyway, of course I hope none of this is true and none of you actually got scammed (if you were, my guess would be you've only lost a couple of pounds, but still), but it doesn't really seem convincing to me. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to clarify my viewpoint. L

Would it be possible it's not an actual magazine but ... a scam? I'm not sure, but there's a lot of things that seem a bit off about it. Both the covers of the first two 'issues' are filled with the most cliche bass-related titles in the universe. There's no trace of any real contact information, an editor or even a printing house. Who in their right mind would invest in founding a new bass magazine these days, without any online content? On the other hand: imagine maybe a couple of hundred people interested enough to pay for a first issue. That's an easy way to earn a fair sum, without offending anyone enough to even consider taking legal action.

This. I've no need for either a headless or another fretless bass, still find myself looking at these every so often.

Been wanting a fretless acoustic for a while now, mostly as a couch/noodling/practice thing; Ibanez did a nice parlor sized one a couple of years ago but those seem to have vanished as quick as they came (bit niche anyway, I guess). Now they've come up with this which seems to be a fretless version of this, the latter of which was already in the catalogue. Anybody have any experience with the fretted version? Thoughts?

Tantacrul makes some great videos. He used to be very critical (rightly so) of Musescore, then was offered a job by them to make things better and took it. Did some good work and made a couple of pretty informative videos to go with it. Superb channel

Definitely not too heavy (don't have exact figures though) and balances pretty well. No neck dive to speak of. Again much better than my 5er PJ, which is very neck heavy.

I just got one last week, in shell pink. Build quality etc bang on, nothing to complain about. Tuners do feel a bit cheap though less so than on my other HB (5string PJ). Set up pretty good as well, with low action out of the box. Intonation seems to be in need of some tweaking. I only rehearsed with it once for about half an hour but I wasn't disappointed. Great, classic JB tones for very little money.

I had a Sire V7 fretless 5er for a while, as well as a fretted 4 string P. Nice basses both of them. Guess you can't really go wrong with the fretless P.

Thanks for the info! I placed an order yesterday with an extra set of strings. I'd planned on changing the pickups if necessary but after a bit of research I've realised things might prove a little more difficult than I thought at first. Decent inexpensive five string pickups are a bit harder to find or so it seems (neither Tonerider nor Wilkinson seem to do them really). Anyway I'm looking forward to playing the bass as it is and will decide what to do about the pickups later on (if they really do need changing that is)

Hi all I've been eyeing the 5-string PJ (https://www.thomann.de/intl/harley_benton_hot_rod_5_bass.htm) for a couple of weeks and I guess I'm about to order one. Does anyone have any experience with this particular model? I know HB's are great for the money and every one seems to love them; I'd just like to be as sure as possible about it (it being a five string and all) if possible. Thanks for any help! L

My neighbour rents and sells pianos and stores them in garages just like you described. Doesn't seem to be a problem in winter (Belgium based).
