  1. Hello All,

Following on from my post about Jack’s Instrument Services a few days ago here’s an interesting one which concerns their sister company Tiny Tone.  Have a listen and if you have further questions I’m sure the guys will be happy to hear from you. To be clear I have no affiliation with the Tiny Tone company, I’m just an interested bystander doing what I can to help some dedicated and passionate individuals who lack the resources of the behemoths.

  2. Hello All,

I would like to let you know about the excellent service I received from Jack at Jack’s Instrument Services in Manchester. I recently bought a 2nd hand Alusonic Django bass from a well known shop based in the Midlands. Unfortunately upon receipt the strings were dead and required changing, the result of this being an A string that rattled and buzzed quite badly. To be honest  I  should have sent the bass back but decided it would probably cost me money along with the degree of risk of sending an expensive instrument back by carrier.
Upon searching google for a suitable instrument repairer I found Jack’s in Cheetham Hill, messaged him and he replied promptly telling me it was very likely the nut on my bass was incorrectly cut and he was confident he could remedy the issue.

I dropped my bass in earlier today and guess what, Jack was spot on with his diagnosis. He was able to craft and fit a new buffalo horn nut which blended in perfectly on my black bass and carry out a really professional set up which resulted in the bass playing perfectly, not a buzz or a rattle in evidence. All for what can be described as a reasonable price all things considered.

Suffice to say if you’re in or near Manchester and you need a bass or guitar repairing or setting up, look no further. Jack will be able to help get your treasured instrument back to its absolute best. Highly recommended!!

  3. For Sale, my very recently acquired Cort Elrick NJS 4 string bass in black.  The bass was purchased in January 2024 and is pretty much as new. It has been played at home so there is some very minor cosmetic wear but nothing really noticeable. The bass plays and sounds very well and weights in around 8.5 pounds so it’s not at all heavy.  I am looking for a straight sale but I will also consider trades for 4 or 5 string basses (Yamaha, Musicman etc) The bass comes in a high quality well padded gig bag which is absolutely spotless. Since their launch they have made quite an impression on the market and the current rrp is anywhere from £900- £995.

I am based in Wigan and would prefer collection, but a meet up can definitely be arranged if necessary. Any questions please drop me a line.

    Thank you for looking.

  4. I have for sale a mint condition Vintage White Sire V5 24 fretless 4 string bass recently acquired from Andertons.  I stupidly didn’t buy a gig bag as I had a spare at home which I have since discovered  doesn’t fit but I do still have the inner and outer box. This is a lovely instrument but playing fretless bass just doesn’t seem to work for me I’m afraid. I have replaced the stock strings with quality nylon tape wounds which provide a lovely feel and a nice warm fretless mwah especially when the rear pickup is engaged. The action at the moment is medium/ medium low and seems to work well to get the desired fretless sound. This very model is currently listed at £459 on Andertons’  site. I will entertain any offers that are sensible and in the region of my published price. Collection is preferred as I am working away in Spain from Wednesday 3rd. If you have any questions please ask.

  5. I bought this recently on a whim and just haven’t used it. It really is as mint as it’s possible to get without being brand new. As you can see I have the box, instructions and power supply.  Save yourself a few quid over a new one and grab this, it’s a great unit and possibly one of the best compact multi fx units that’s ever been built specifically for bass. Please let me know if you have any questions. I would rather someone collect this but will post very well packaged at the purchaser’s risk and share the cost of postage.

  6. That really is something special. I love Yamaha instruments, they are super cool and always seem to hit the spot tone wise. I’m very tempted and only down the road from you too in sunny Wigan. Trouble is if I buy this I will probably not play my Sadowsky. Might give me the chance to move the Sadowsky on, if it plays and sounds as good as it looks!

Undoubtedly one of the most underrated bass players on the planet, and one of the best. I saw him a few years ago with The Sunburst Band and he was sensational. All the stuff he performed with Incognito is also a must listen, the best of all their bass players IMHO.

  8. I have already mentioned Marcus Miller as my number 1 but it was a hard choice. For those of you who have never come across a band called Sixun, the guy in the video Michel Alibo is Sixun’s bass player. Originating from Martinique he settled in France and was a founding member of the band . A huge influence on me, but sadly virtually unknown in the UK. Jo Zawinul from Weather Report recruited several members of bands based in France including drummer Paco Sery from Sixun and bassist  Etienne Mbappe from Ultramarine, eventually replacing Mbappe with another French based bass player Linley Marthe an absolutely exceptional talent. You might want to check these players out if you’re curious.

Here’s Michel playing some frankly ridiculous bass to Sixun’s track Djoudjou. Hope you enjoy it and find some new inspiration.

I have a Legacy 800 head and I love the sound.  If you want your bass to be heard in a rock band, look no further.  I sold my MarkBass head to fund the Legacy purchase, so I sort of get why @MNY is keen on trading this for a MarkBass.  The MarkBass stuff is too dark for me, I love the GK clank!

    GLWTS.

Thank you Billybass. I love the sound of the GK, it’s an incredible piece of kit. However I have a damaged right arm and the combo is just a bit too bulky to carry around comfortably.  It’s far from heavy but I have a preference for something smaller if possible.
