Long time since I posted but has anyone ever tuned a short scale bass to D / drop C?
Would the short scale not be suitable for lower tunings?
I have yet to try and the only bass I have now is an Epi EB0 with flat wounds which I don’t think would work at all!

Depends on the flower choice
why not put it in a 51styje P

You could stick small flowers in the holes and use it to decorate your home?
ha That is a solid option

I have to say my modded Epi EB0 sounds and plays and feels really nice. A lot better than the Squier Bronco and Ibby Talman I had (it's all personal I suppose). I have been playing it through headphones mainly and a warwick gnome and it sounds fine. For sure, it'll be different through a cab,
I tried it at low volume through a Peavey Bandit guitar amp and it sounded pretty good, a lot bassier obviously. The pickup upgrade is a Retrovibe and a brass nut.

I have this pickup lying around and looking for ideas of what to do. (Something basic maybe)
I suppose I could ask a luthier to mod a P Bass body and stick this in there? Any thoughts?
Here is a link to the pickup and how it looks on one of the website builds.

Just got my Epi EB0 back from luthier. I got a brass nut, a retrovibe humbucker and the little extension bar behind the bridge (a cheap improvement on stock).
Wow. The sustain is fantastic. Notes ring out for ages. Very happy with the upgrades and can’t wait to try it through a proper bass amp.

@javi_bassistdo you use a FRFR speaker as your "amp" as well? What if the venue doesn't have monitors?

I have one of these on the way from Tides guitars (TTTides officially), but it'll take a year to be finished. It's going to be 30" scale, pickups will be single coil in thunderbird housing and moved closer to the neck, with a series/parallel switch, and will either be a wood body or composite wood. It will be neck through. Can't wait!
This is what the pickup positioning should look like.

Ordered a Gnome as well. It was between it and the Elf, and it was around €100 roughly cheaper, where I am, so I went for it, as it will mainly be used for home recording and practice, and eventually as a back up. For a gigging amp head, I might go for a combo or a Quilter Bass Block if one shoes up used sometime. I have a Quilter guitar head, and it's a great little thing.

Never tried the Washburn S1000, but I have two Status S2 Classics with bolt-on graphite necks. They can do everything, and do it well! I use my 5-string in a doom metalband tuned down to A and it's easily tight enough to pull it off, sounds deep and fat and works really well with my Darkglass B7K overdrive.
That is what I was getting at

Are these good for anything that isn’t slap?

Boxer bass anyone?

I was close to pulling the trigger on a 4003s in Japan but held off. Also thinking of a Laredo style build but totally undecided still!

I sold my Squier Bronco bass, so all these are brand new, box opened only, and for sale.
I am in Spain, so not sure of the ins and outs of postage between EU to UK etc, but anyhow. I think the prices are fair enough. If you are buying in EU, you'll save the customs etc on all of these as they originally came from UK and USA.
€190/160 GBP and I will pitch in with postage
Earpilanz 3 ply pickguard €15
Oil City Mustang pickup €80
Home of Tone Mustang Wiring Loom €50
Mustang bass bridge €50

Forget about the random synth and mustang spring pics! -
Anyone try those Danelectro short scale 59 basses yet? The long scale version video demos sound pretty good. They sure as heck look original.
-
Still on the hunt, and it doesn't get any easier. I spotted some interesting used basses near me that I had not considered:
G&L tribue L2000 (some G&L USA versions further afield but in same country)
A Washburn Status (headless, could be interesting if the treble could be tamed). Every online demo seems to be of people slapping the stinky poo out of this instrument, a style which has no appeal to me. I understand this is what they might be best suited to. They sure do look really cool though!
Ibanez SR500
A Yamaha bbga4 (never heard of these before)
A Cort EVL Z6 (never saw these before either, and is going for cheap)
Some kind of a weird looking Vantage MIJ bass, which looks cool anyhow!
And a load of P or PJ variations.
The choise is limitless it seems...

Very nice bass. On a side note, here is a video with the Deus bassist Alan Gevaert. It's in Dutch, so double Dutch to me, but different pickups in his G&L. A custom job?

No, there was a regular scale version of the Embassy with alleged bridge issues.
Apologies, alleged bridge issues, though more often than not when I have seen videos of people going on about "issues" with instruments, I have often found nothing wrong with them when I played them. Case in point. Epiphone EB0. I have a stock one which is perfectly fine.

Was there a short scale version of the Embassy a few years ago with bridge issues ?

A cranky bugger but...

Is another Rockinbetter not being considered?
Another faker, maybe, but another Rockinbetter? Nah. Someone posted on the FB faker group the other day about some guy in UK selling a real RIC 4003s for 1000 pounds which seemed like a really good price..

I can vouch for the Epi thunderbird vintage pro - I have two of them. They are excellent basses, look as cool as a polar bear's nads and neither has a problem with neck dive.
Probably the coolest of all I have been looking at. They sound good too.

@Obrienpthanks for expanding on this. I suppose that should have been my query. Would higher tension strings help. Just as well it was just a thought and I did not go ahead and try it yet!
