  1. A licence to print money.

Every time I go to see the Spurs I squeeze through throngs of fans queuing up to buy beer and burgers and walk to my seat and sit with the other 60k fans, many with replica shirts, and watch Spurs play (often badly).  And at the next match it all happens again.

EBMM (and Fender) can produce overpriced bass after overpriced bass and people will buy them.  I'm not interested in the basses, but I wouldn't mind a few shares in the company.

  2. Evri are very cheap but that comes with its drawbacks.  I sold an MXR Vintage Octave to someone on here and it went missing in transit.  I am almost certain it was stolen from the corner shop that was the drop off point and I took photos of how the shop leaves all the parcels in a pile in the middle of the shop but I found no facility to leave the photos on their website and gave up.  I do still sometimes use Evri, for less valuable stuff, but I don't use that particular drop off shop.

Played with The Inevitable Teaspoons last night at Krakatoa in Aberdeen.  Man down cos Stu the sax had his shifts changed on him so was somewhere on a rig somewhere in the North Sea.  4 band bill and we were playing last.  Things were going to plan until the second last band came on - for some reason the sound gremlins came out of the woodwork and hit them hard - things not working, then feedback when they were - knocked things about half an hour off course.

Anyhoo, we did make it on.  We were a bit grumpy by the time we got on so we played quite angrily - fast and ragged, especially the first couple of songs.  Tried a new song and ballsed it up royally - second chorus is supposed to be half length but half of us did the repeat.  I was "right" but that doesn't matter when the result was that it sounded like a jumbled mess.  Oh well.  It got better towards the end though, and had fun machinegunning the audience at the end of the last song so we'll see.  Speaking of which, there was a decent crowd for a BOTB gig and there was some enthusiastic dancing going on - even had someone doing the worm!

BB1200 was Bloody Brilliant.  Pedalboard worked, in that it didn't spontaneously collapse, or wander about the place when stepped on.  All in all, got to spend an evening with my mates, play some tunes and drink some beers - with all the awful stuff that's going on in the world it can't be that bad, can it?

I presume then, from this post, that you have been successful in your search for a new singer?

I agree ... materials and work are important to the outcome of a good guitar (bass) 🙂

I disagree, partly.  I have to look at a bass and think, "Wow".  It also does need to be well made and have good materials but if its appearance doesn't interest me, I won't buy it.

    What's wrong with dimmer switches?

I regularly replace dimmer switches that are either faulty or, with LED bulbs, just don't work very well.  Simple on-off rocker switches normally last for decades.

I also regularly replace dimmer switches designed for use with halogen or tungsten filament bulbs as nowadays you can pretty much only buy LED bulbs in your local supermarket and most people aren't aware that they won't work well with their existing dimmer switch.  If you google 'leading edge and trailing edge dimmers' you will get an understanding why.  Even so, trailing edge dimmers will not dim an LED anywhere near as well as the old leading edge dimmers could dim a halogen bulb.  A diode is a gate, it is either on or off but technology has provided us with dimmers for them; perhaps in a few years time we will have dimmers that actually work well with them, as in dim from 100% down to 0% with no strobing.

If there was a fan club for lovers of on-off rocker light switches, I would join.

Good call..if I could find a used one ...£500 new at bass direct.

The 350s come up 2nd hand every now and again; usually for about £300 give or take.  You don't see many 800s coming up for sale 2nd hand.  I got mine off eBay, sold it on here.

I would say they are worth £500 new, if you want that sound.  They are well made, the feature set is excellent and they go below 4 ohms.  But £500 is a lot of money.

Best amp I've ever used.   For the first time in years I'm thinking of letting mine go in favour of something lighter, but I'm torn because I know I'll never get anything that sounds as good.

You could always try the latest Fusion range.  Andertons stocks them and they have knocked £150 off the price of the Fusion 800S, it's now a mere snip at £1149, just in case you have a kidney you aren't using at the moment.

I have a legacy 800 and a Fusion 1200S.  I love them both but the Fusion S through Barefaced 10s sounds lush and warm but still retains the GK toppy bite.

I am attempting to buy a Fender Custom shop Bass and asked for some extra pictures (apart from those on the web site) so that I can check on one or two details. Not much to ask for a Bass costing around £4K but they tell me that Fender will not allow them to open the Bass?

I think it is quite brave to spend £4k on a bass without seeing it and playing it first.

  9. I have a Legacy 800.  Noise when playing certain basses has occurred, but after shielding said basses all was good.

I am an electrician and as a consequence of my work experience, there are no dimmer switches in my house.

Overall, I am very impressed with my GK amps; they are well made and sound great.

  10. I like the peach colour and I like Pau Ferro.  I'm not a roadworn fan and I have a strong aversion to not being able to adjust the truss rod without unscrewing the neck.

If on playing both I decided that, in spite of the above, the Flea was worth an extra £500, I would buy it.  I really doubt that would be the case though.

    Good choice.

The pedal I thought would be a slam dunk but has left me a touch disappointed is the Rattler. Done a fair bit of knob-twiddling with the blend but still getting a bit lost in the mix. However I love the secondary switch to go full-gain for those heavier parts, so will be staying in the board for now. Quite easy to accidentally engage that switch, mind..

I'm a bit of a Jam pedals fan boi but I moved my Rattler on.  I found it sucked too much of the bass out, even with the blend.

I've had the Lucy Dreamer for a couple of years and I've just acquired the Red Muck.  They won't be sold.

Big gig in our favourite old dive coming up right after Christmas. We managed a quick band photo, and then a great rehearsal. Things are sounding great. I’m the geezer.  From the left … drummer , bass , two trumpet players , and two guitar players.

They look class.  You can sometimes tell just by looking at a picture that a band are true superstars that deserve our devotion, and these definitely come into this category.  Stand aside Taylor Swift.

I had looked at so many basses that I was starting to fosters myself off. So. My plan was simple.

    1. Drink some beers.

    2. Open the iPad.

    3. Don’t pretend to be deep, be your shallow self and look at things you think look nice.
    4. buy it within 60minutes.

I'm not sure if you are new here or are a long time lurker and occasional poster, but, judging from the above, you are going to get along just fine on Basschat.

  14. I've always found it difficult to buy a bass with a headstock I don't like and the I really don't like the Sire headstock, it reminds me of a Roman nose from an Asterix cartoon.  Nevertheless, the 4+1 of that Z series fiver takes my attention away from the end, I don't mind it.  I won't be buying one though.  I have 10 basses and any additions to the collection would have to be special; these aren't.

Yes. I was in a band that pretty much happened to. The singer was actually asked to leave, the drummer took on singing duties.

Then one of the guitarists said they were looking at houses on the Isle of Wight for retiring too.

Then the drummer/singer announced he was moving and would have to leave.

I politely told the remaining two guys I was off, but if they find a drummer and a singer to call me.

I only joined this band initially as there was a drummer.  It was a drummer and guitarist advertising on JMB for a bassist.  Anyway, a drummer I have played with before got in touch and we had a rehearsal today, all seems fine.  I got back from the rehearsal to see a message from a singer/guitarist on JMB, so we might be alright.

Myself and the guitarist have put a lot into this band so we are not going to give up without a fight.
