  1. Nice to see this thread is still going 3.5 years on. In that time I've owned a lot of the pre-amps that have been mentioned. Of the full featured stomp box type pre's my favourite has been the EBS Microbass II however I'm now just taking the DI out from my amp head. Should that change I'm sure I'll be revisiting this list, I've still yet to to try the Tone Hammer and the Broughton pres have piqued my interest.
  2. In the New Year I'll be meeting up with a guy I met on the internet for a bit of a Jazz standards jam. Learning jazz and walking bass has been on my to do list all through lockdown I just lacked motivation to pick up and play. In recent months I've been playing a lot more but not much focussed practice and now I've gone and committed myself to this new beginners jazz group. It's been pitched as a beginners level so I'm not expecting to master anything in just a few short weeks but I want to show up being able to play more than root notes to a 2 feel (which was the extent of my last jazzcapade). I have a Real Book to hand and I'll be spending a ton of time on arpeggio exercises but any other tips, help or advice that the BC community can offer me to get me on my way to build some level competence would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
  3. Hi Again, In addition to my last thread on how to record professional / studio quality bass I'm also looking for tips on how to get EZ-Drummer sounding more authentic. As a tool it's easy to use and I can quite quickly get a backing drum track to jam too. However I'm never completely satisfied with how it sounds when I'm mixing it with bass and other instruments. Does anyone here have any experience of using it for producing decent quality music? I know it's possible to split each of the drums into it's own dedicated channel in a DAW (in my case Cubase, I've got a YouTube tutorial on this) but I'm looking for more tips on how to mix / master it better for a more authentic sound. If you have any tips, YT tutorials or articles on how to produce / mix electronic drums, especially EZ Drummer, please share with me! Thanks
  4. Good Evening Folks, I'm desperately trying to stay away from all the gear threads here on BC (sadly failing) preferring to focus on discussions that are going to help improve my playing and help me learn how to record more professional quality bass. Although not a complete novice to home recording I don't feel I've really mastered it as a skill and I'm looking for any advice / guidance / tips that the BC community can offer me. I use Cubase as my DAW and have a pretty good understanding of how it works. I also have some of the required equipment at my disposal: - DI options: Radial Pro 48 DI box or DI out of my GR Bass head. - Audio Interface: SSL 2 channel AI - DAW plugins (IR cab sims, Cubase's standard suit of tools (reverb, compression, eq etc.) I'm willing to invest in other plugin's if needed and potentially a decent microphone for the cab. Please do share your wisdom with me; any links to articles or YouTube tutorials also very welcome - I really want to be able to record more professional / studio quality bass. Thanks
  5. Paul bought a pedalboard off me last month so I'm a bit late in leaving this feedback (sorry). Everything was super smooth with the transaction, if you get an opportunity to deal with @Shepster8316 don't hesitate, a great BC'er.
  6. Bob recently bought a Markbass head from me. Super smooth transaction with good communications - totally recommended. Thanks Bob!
  7. Dave bought a Trace Elliot combo from me in a completely smooth and hassle free exchange of goods for cash! He's a lovely chap and it was a pleasure to meet him. If you have the opportunity to deal with Dave don't hesitate, he's a great member of the BC community.
  8. Made worse as I ended up hating the cab and selling it for a loss a year or so later 🤣
  9. These are my personal experiences, I'm sure like with Bax others have dealt with them no problem at all. A few years ago I bought a cab from them, advertised as having free delivery. They called me up after I placed the order and told me I had to pay delivery. I reluctantly agreed (i shouldn't have), took the day off work waiting for the delivery and unsurprisingly it never showed up. Didn't even respond to my email or return my call complaining about it I just got a delivery schedule notification from the courier for a couple of days later. A year or so later I was selling a bass, no joy on here so I emailed them asking them about selling via their shop and asking for details about commission etc. Didn't even bother responding to me. Appalling customer service from my perspective, once they had my money they couldn't give a shit so as a consumer I avoid them now.
  10. So @bassfan hasn't followed up on the trade deal for the TE Combo so it's still up for sale.
  11. Sadly there seem to be only 2 specialists in the UK for Bass gear that I'm aware of. Bass Direct which is a 4 hr round trip for me and the Bass Gallery who are one of the worst organisations I've ever dealt with.
  12. Fortunately it seems my Black Friday purchases from Bax have gone relatively OK. Tracking took a few days after my shipping confirmation email was received to show anything, but the amp head did arrive today (a day later than my selected delivery date). I have another order I'm waiting for that I also made over the weekend, tracking just got updated so hopefully I'll get it by the end of the week. Email responses were slow, it took about 2 days for their customer services to email me back and they weren't very helpful in helping me understand what was going on - fortunately things have started to progress without their intervention. The reason they gave for the slight delays in delivery and tracking status was just black friday load on both them and the couriers (I opted for Parcel Force).
  13. I used Planet Wave (subsequently D'Addario) American Stage cables for years (the ones with the Nuetrik/Rean jacks). I've also got Planet Waves XLR cables and Speaker Cables that I've gigged multiple times and never had a problem with any of them. I recommended them to another BC'er based on my experiences and the fact they have a life time warranty and they had nothing but problems with theirs :(. I guess like many other companies quality control has just gone out the window in favour of cheaper manufacturing. Last time I make a recommendation to anyone. The only cable I've ever had a serious problem with was an Evidence Audio cable, clearly had some fault but became unusable due to noise. I've been pretty happy with the Mogami instrument cables I've been using recently but I've not gigged them so don't know about durability. However all this talk about Van Damme cables has got me curious so I've ordered one in goblin green (to match my trace combo) to try one out.
  14. Me I think.. wish I'd kept them though 🤣
  15. What do you think of the elf? I'm considering a nice little compact rig and am considering an Elf - @Doodmade it sound great on his video review.
