  1. I didn't enjoy reading that Aston "Family Man" Barrett passed away this week, a huge loss to the bass world.

      Massive loss, very sad indeed

  2. FINALLY got Thea back.  Collected her at 10 this morning.

    Fast asleep on her bed.

  3. If one were to woo a lady with a succession of Reggae songs, where might be a good place to start?  Without being too direct. I feel a good term would be blatant subtlety which i coincidentally may have just come up with yet cannot fully explain. I have no idea what i'm doing except steering towards the little bit of light at the end of this dark tunnel

Hi Thump, I would go down the lovers rock reggae route, it’s the more easy listening of the scale as opposed to the dub side of things, anybody who likes reggae will like some Gregory isaacs, Barrington levy, Janet kay, Carol Thompson, Jean Adebambo, a lot of the late 70s to early 80s was a good time for this, maybe ask her which artists she likes and we could put a playlist together , couple of classics here , not sure if it’s what you had in mind 🙂

  13. Anyone here use short or medium scale Rotosound swing bass? Just put a set on my Hofner and the E string has some really weird overtones, wondering if these die down once the strings break in.

Cool, I don’t play short scale but it sounded similar to how one of my  jazzes was

Hi, have you checked that the string isn’t twisted , and I had this once and it was the pickup too close to the string on the E side

  16. Hi all,

My name is Bill and I am a free style bassist who started back in the early 60’s and then became a DJ in 1972 up until 2000. I then went back to playing bass for some friends and also joined a local church where I played in some of the worship bands for several years. I now play as and when friends ask me to step in if they need a bassist as I live in Worcester and it is not too far to travel around the area.

  21. Dear Basschat, I have a problem. I am so happy with all my basses and amps etc that I no longer feel the need to come here and look at things endlessly. How long will this feeling last?

I haven’t had any problems here and I’ve spent quite a few thousands buying, I suppose there’s always a first time, hope you get it sorted Luke
