IIRC they had a lightweight body (possibly basswood), a 1-pce maple neck and a nice wenge fingerboard. Electronics were Bart single coils, with volume, pan and stacked bass/treble cut/boost, with a 3-position mid switch common to most Tobias-designed basses. The Hipshot bridge is a nice touch, too. They originally came in black and pilsner (think the colour of lager) - black was much nicer. Not dissimilar to a cheaper version of the modern MTD. In any case, a superb bass with tons of growl for very silly money. Have a bump on me!
+1

 4. Very nice collection; the chocolate brown '78 P Bass is gorgeous...
 5. Depending on the model you might be getting (a MK1 I think), Paul may have some old necks in the workshop so it's definitely worth calling him..
 6. I had a CAR one for a few years and it was fantastic; 1984 model IIRC. Traded it with Beester 3 years ago but still miss it to be honest..
 7. Si..you look really moody in your avatar pic...
 8.
I, like most of us here have tried / played almost everything on the market from cheap crap to expensive exotica. After endless searching I decided to find a 5 string neck I could really play with no preconceptions. And I found to my horror that a Fender American Standard Jazz 5 was the answer. I never considered a fender before as the rumours of poor quality control and average sound for the money put me off. I found the answer was to change the pickups for Nordstands as the fenders are poor in comparison. If you like the neck profile then go for it as the tweaks to the pickups and preamp are endless. Here's a pic of my two......I liked the Jazz so much I bought a second one and got the nice chaps at the gallery to put on an ebony lined fretless board.
+1 I have one too that I bought from Gary Williams last year and like you, I think they really have something to offer! It's a great bass to gig with; very light, very responsive, is really well made and is a joy to play. And because Gary upgraded the pick ups to custom wound Aeros, as well as having a Badass bridge fitted, it's also sounds fantastic! The low B is pretty good for a 34" scale neck too. Works brilliantly with my Eden Metro and really complements my Roscoe Beck 5, which offers similar F/jazz characteristics albeit with a few more tonal options... (thanks to Gary for the photo)
 9. Lovely collection! The Deep 5 is stunning...
 10.
Peter, that's a real shame you have to get rid of what is a lovely bass but I'm exceedingly happy to hear that other things in your life are progressing positively. Congratulations and best wishes sir!
My sentiments exactly.. Beautiful looking instrument Peter - good luck with sale and with being back on the road again!
 11.
Very cool i'd say ! Congrats
+1 That's quite an honour.... Love the version of 'Let's Go Crazy' by the way...and that is a great bass sound!
 12. Great idea.. Something that our very own jakesbass should run IMO..
 13.
Haha! If you hadn't got the Shuttle we could have swapped. Ah well... Let me have a ponder
Here we go again Mert!! It is very tempting I would imagine.. Especially as it's a good price for a very well-featured amp with plenty of power and the ability to run at 2 ohms.. I used to use mine with an SWR Triad and an SWR 210 and it was a really, really good sound.. Good luck with it!
 14. Looks like a great piece of kit.. Good luck with it Chris!
 15. Very nice indeed!!
 16. Don't mind the look actually, but it's seems more of a guitar shape than a bass to me. What do they sound like - anyone heard one?
 17.
By God! Welcome to the Sad Club guys
Wasn't it Macca who used to take his guitar to the toilet when he was a teenager? Seems as though the Sad Club has been around for quite a while...
 18.
Yo dont see many of these in Gospel especially a four...sounds fantastic.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izAJIt1hRuY
=1 Great player and a great band too.. Didn't enjoy the rest of the footage though, when the band stopped playing.
 19.
Intriguingly, that's the first mention in this thread of covers. All the bands I've played in were/are strictly covers, no original stuff at all, so there's already a bassline to be played. As long as I play either what was on the original track or something that does the same job, I get no grief from the rest of the band. The tricky stuff tends to be where it's impossible to replicate the original. For example, the bassline to Long Train Running is dead simple and surprisingly slow, but in the original mix it's augmented by all sorts of other stuff going on (chiefly percussion) which makes it sound/feel both faster and much funkier than it actually is. It's not uncommon to get a guitarist saying "That's not how it sounds when the Doobies play it".
For us, it's a bit more complicated in that we are a covers band but we don't always do the song as the original.. If the song has a very recognisable bassline then of course, we replicate that. But in many instances, we are making sure that the song works within the context of our band.. We always have respect for a well-known song but also want to let the individual abilities of the band shine through whenever possible. For example, we would never normally do 'Sweet Home Alabama' as we're not really a Rock/Blues type covers band.. But we decided to try it as we imagined U2 would do it..so that's what we did and it works great! We also do 'Tainted Love' but decided to mix the Marilyn Manson version and the Pussycat Dolls version; again, great fun to play around with and it always goes down really well at gigs. For me it's perfect because we get to play lots of cool songs and can throw in some creativity as well..

 22.
Listen 'n learn y'all. Funk doesn't get any better than this..... And the clothes don't get any better than that either... Love the sound of that drummer's kit and him and the bass player are really on the money!
 23.
And we shall have very many members I reckon!
Yep! What are we like...
 24.
I had a conventional amp with a buzzing transformer that I could only hear when we all stopped playing. It still drove me nuts while I practiced at home, and I ended up trading it for one that did not buzz. David
Me too, with an Eden nemesis NA650..Apparently, it's an inherent design fault in the Nemesis range. Isn't it crazy that some supposedly 'hi-end' manufacturers don't seem to care enough about their quality control, their reputation or their customers! Chris - if you've already emailed them and you don't get a satisfactory response, you should ask for your money back. Good luck with it!
 25.
Hey, thank you chaps, think the white Corvette is winning with the Wilkins a close second. Nik, wish I'd have known that before I met Mr Hillside, I may have reminded him And, er, told you didn't I ..
Great pic Nig, and has to become the official photo of the 'Basschatters (who love their basses more than anything else) Sad Losers Club'.. Must post mine too!
