Then, some bright spark, you know who you are , starts a thread, advertising the great deals Thomann were (are?) doing on the Squier 40th Anniversary basses
Guilty as charged! 😄

It's my pleasure chaps, I'm really happy that so many on this great forum have taken advantage of the offer and are as happy with their bass as I am 👍

Yes, translucent...you can see the grain.
I've seen quite a few nice ones but several that looked pretty bad, indeed.
Might be a good idea to check these out in person...this from someone who owns 12 basses, 9 purchased online.
I'd like to meet the genius who thought this was a good idea just to ask him why they weren't painted Dakota Red instead.
I would've preferred the blonde but saw the Jonny Dibble review prior to purchase so didn't want to risk it. I'm pleased to say I'm very happy with my dakota red P and also happy for the guys who ordered the blonde and got a good one. They really are great basses 👍

Ooh, good to know, I've just ordered a tort plate. I'll get some copper tape pronto.
I had some lightweight Hipshot tuners spare, so I've chucked them on, it now weighs 3.67kg, less than my Mustang.
Yes, it is slightly translucent, but less noticeably so because it's a matt finish.
Where have you ordered the tort plate from?

Do you think as OP of this thread Thomann may give me some freebies if I send them a link ? 🤔🤣

Just to add, my 40th Anniversary Precision in Satin Dakota Red has just arrived and it is incredible. An absolute dream to play and is actually set up really nicely. It also sounds brilliant and despite not liking satin necks as I prefer gloss necks, it feels really really nice. The only other satin neck I've ever liked was my fretless Stingray which was the nicest neck I've ever played but this also feels really good. The vintage look is also really nice. So I am super happy and the best £250 I've spent on a bass and will tide me over as the only fretted bass in my collection 😜
Mine arrived today too, I'm also super happy with it. It's set up really well, if a touch too high for me but I'll give it a fettle tomorrow. I have to say I think it looks superb, the vintage tinted neck is very classy as is the satin finish on the body.
The sound is everything I'd hoped for with tons of sustain. I'm particularly impressed with how progressive the tone control is, small adjustments give really discernable change.
It'll soon be strung with flats with the addition of a tug bar and maybe a bridge cover to complete the retro vibe.
I'd have been over the moon with this bass at full rrp but for £259 it's incredible!

Damn this thread, damn it I say! Just pulled the trigger on the more expensive, blond version.
OK, full disclosure, I've had raging P bass GAS for months and was contemplating building my own (see, putting parts together), so this thread has actually saved me a few quid. I just hope that I'm not disappointed and just keep using my Mustang. 🤞
Happy to help mate 🤣👍

Luckily my GAS levels are fairly low. I am not 100% sure but I seem to remember prices started going down already a few months after launch. Not Thomann sells them pretty much at the price of an Affinity PJ. I suspect they were not as big a success as Fender initially expected. Maybe this is down to all that gold - it's a personal taste but I just find them ugly.
Still, if I could buy a bass now I would buy one of these Ps
Only a gold anodised pickguard on the dakota red and vintage blonde models, easy change 👍

Too good to be true? I'll find out when it comes next week!
It's been a couple of years since I moved on my last bass, a Sire V7. I stupidly sold my USA Fender P about 10 years ago and have regretted it to this day! Hopefully this will ease the pain somewhat.
My order is confirmed, can't believe they're selling at this price! No mention of B stock on the website.
Can't wait to get playing again 👍

Thought I'd change the pickguard on my Dakota Red P, really happy with how it's turned out.
