Most basses, that I know of, where you can switch between actve and passive mode should work fine without a battery. You simly engage/ disengage the onboard preamp. Basses that are active only, like MM Stingray, and many with EMG active pickups will not make any sound if the battery goes dead. i would consider an active/ passive bass that does not play without battery flawed. 😊

I'm not shure I can answer your question to full extent, but I can give you my thoughts about a simmilar set up. I did som testing of this during the easter holidays. My task is to make myself a multi- purpose rig with components that can serve more than one purpose, combined or separate. First of all I want to be 100% battery powered and portable/compact, so I can use my bass at my Cabin, or around a campfire together with a guitar or two. So i tested a VOX amplug connected to the AUX in on a JBL Extreme Bluetooth speaker. This worked surprisingly well, and I would be sufficient to keep up with an acoustic guitar. I think, however I will continue to search for a decent preamp/ cab sim./ DI (pedal?) with AUX in and headphone out. That way, I can use it in a gigging situastion as well, either into my amp, or directly to the board/ FOH. The bliuetooth speaker can, of course, be utilized for playback with or without the attached bassplayer, should that be what the audience demands. 🙄😎

First of all, I would have a chat with your new neighbours and explain that you do play instruments and have to practice. Ask them about what hours would be least disturbing, and make it clear that it is OK to let you know if sound traveling through the wall becomes a problem/ nuisance. Of course you take whatever precautions you can without tip-toeing around your own house, such as moving bass cab. away from floor and wall, playing at moderate levels an so on. Disclaimer: I have never lived in a semi detached house, and my nearest neighbour at the moment is about 150 meters away form my house. 😎 Mykesbass beat me to it...

Hmmm. I don't think I have listened to a full album since the dawn of Spotify, to be honest. I just tend to find a suitable playlist and start random shuffle.. With that in mind, I will have to wind back to the 80's and early 90's to find the live album I listened to the most. And, I believe the answer is "dIRE sTRAITS, aLCHEMY". I still enjoy this music when I hear it, and the playfullness of a live performance gives it a little extra, I think.

It shure was, but from what I recall only on the Jazz and Tele bass, as far as basses go. The P-bass (and Telecaster g***ar) kept their 4 screws.

I am no expert by a long shot, but I do not think that's a real fender Precision. If I remember correctly, the P-bass was never made with a 3 bolt neck plate (it could be the other way around...). the headstock decal looks strange to me, but I'm not sure about this. The ashtray bridge cover looks like it was made for a jazz... I might be very wrong about this, but choose to stick my head out anyway.

Googled B. Martinez just for the fun of it, and there is one Billy Martinez, Fender VP Category Manager, Acoustic Division. He is also in the Squier Division... maybe he was working on the floor 20 years ago?

Hi! I have been reading this, and the other build-threads for 12" cabs with great interest, and have a question. Has anyone modeled the 30liter cab for other drivers? The Beyma sm212 seems hard to find here in Norway, and buying from abroad would be relatively expencive with postage and taxes involved. Eminence or celestion elements seem to be more readily available. PS. I have no knowlege of the Magic involved in designing a speaker, but I can follow an "IKEA" description when i have to, and this seems like a cool project for the long winter nights here up north.

Get a little more power as well as have the ability to rehearse together with my 15 year old, who is just starting to learn. I play only as a hobby, so budget is tight. No paying gigs at the moment...

Hi, guys! I'm just trying to figure out if a Promethean head might be the right amp for me. I currently own a GK MB200 head, playing to a GK MBE 210 cab (1. gen. with neo elements). This amp sound a little harsh and boomy to me playing my JV Jazz Bass. (Have to cut back the bass and treble a lot) An Ibanez Promethean head (P500H) has surfaced on a sales-page here in Norway for about the equivalent of £130. I have read many good things about this amp, but nearly nothing newer than 2015 or something. ( I know it's discontinued). I also read about the slow start issues, and will ask about that if I contact the seller. So. Is it fair to believe that the Promethean might give me a different sound going through the same GK cab? Can the eq and "vibe"(?) knob make it a little "warmer" sounding, with less of a mid scoop? Does anyone have these anymore? experience With both would be awesome. PS. Other amps i have been looking at in the 500-800w range, cost from £300 up used... Thanks in advance. Halvor

Thanks for the nice comment, Glefty. Unfortunately this deal did not go through for me, and the bass probably ended up in someone elses hands. I truely hope they enjopy it.

The little MB 200, which I have, is kind of minimalistic in that it doesn't have separate gain and volume Controls. it's only one volum knob, the eq and a contour switch. Good little amp, but I think I want something a little different sounding as well.

Thanks for the good answers and stories, guys. I guess I will continue my quest for a warm sounding amp in the 500+w. range. I sometimes find the GK a little harsh and sterile sounding. However that may also be caused by other parts of the sound chain. (SquierJV jazz with Dean Markley steels.) I will try some nickles and see if they are a little more mellow in tone.🤪

Thanks for the reply. I am aware that the "square footage" of speaker cab is also a factor when it comes to how loud things can get. I got the same response about the GK cab from a guy on "the American site", and I am a little puzzled, as the cab is rated 400 watts @ 8 ohm. (The old Stage line is rated at 500.) I guess that I eventually will get another designated bass cab, possibly another 210, but these will have to do for now. I have the streamliner on my watch list, but they don't come up that often second hand here I Norway. (I do have a rather right budget.... And I like the thought of utilizing what others don't want or need anymore.😀)

Hi! I'm considering adding a second amp to my "arsenal", as my 14 year old son is becoming interested in learning the bass. (Yeah, I know most of you consider multiple amps a necessity, but that is not my situation right now.) I currently have a GK MB 200 going in to a GK MBE 210 Cab, and/ or an old Stage Line 15" PA speaker (which actually sounds quite all right at modest volumes). With the GK being only 200 watt @ 4ohms (cabs being 8 ohm), i think it would be wise to add a slightly bigger amp. I'm thinking 500 to 800 watts @ 4 ohms. I want: Light weight head, warm sound, possibly a tube or three in the pre amp. Budget about £300- 400. (another cab will probably come later on) Will it be possible for such an amp to produce a nice, warm sound, clean enough to be of value for a learner at livingroom/ bedroom volumes. The idea is that I can practise together with my son to help him learn, and maybe me to become more concious of my own playing. Suggestions are welcome, of course. Best regards halvor

When I read this about the old headless Hohners beeing kind of rare, I come to think of my own headless bass. It's a Cort Space B2 (I think it's called) With active/passive Electronics. I'm not shure how rare this is, but The Cort webpage states that these where manufactured alongside the Hohners in the Korean Cort factory in the 80's, and share much of the same hardware and Electronics. I do think that the active ones are a litte more difficult to find than the passive ones. Well herre are some pics.

If I have understood what I have read on the interests these past few days correctly, the "P-Project" was/is Fernandes' custom shop/high end department. I guess that gave room for some custom touches when an instrument was ordered.🤗😀

Wow! That is some impressive detective work, by you, MrWalker. And a good observation from bassassasin as well on the scarf joint.😀 It looks that the only differences between the '98 and the one on sake in Norway are the colour and the headstock logo. Still puzzled by the Warwick back cover, though.
