1. Just sent you a pm lol, good to meet you as well. Couldn't get back down there in the end but from the little time i spent in the place it was really friendly (the polar opposite of most places back in Wales).
2.
I wish I'd got into Rush before I did. First album I bought was Hold Your Fire, first time I saw them was on that album tour.
They are the first band that came to mind. Never listened to them before about 2 months ago when i came across a youtube video in the recommended videos, called 'Rush best intro ever', clicked on it out of curiousity and was blown away. Bought a greatest hits cd (The spirit of radio) which i really enjoyed but preferred listening to them live. Would have been a great band to have seen live so kinda regret not seeing them live.
3. Just added it to my watch list to check out, thanks for the heads up.
4. Got back earlier, yes m25 was fun and games! Being new to bass (and basschat) only got to have a quick chat with the nice chap on the door (Hamster i think?), had a brief chat with another nice man in the main hall (he caught me drooling over a Squier P bass in there, lol) and said hello to another gent who was there with his lad. There were plenty of lovely guitars on show and was really impressed with the playing i saw. Kinda watched from afar as wasn't sure about approaching anyone as didn't want to appear rude and interrupt anything.. Davey Rimmer's talk was really informative and his playing was epic. Hopefully will be able to go to the next one and actually be able to come and say hello to some of you

6.
if anyone has any old under £100 basses lying around and want a quick buck then please come and see me
Was about to post something similar, only need 1 tho to hopefully become a student, lol
7.
Just remembered to remind you - the Fat Lil's blues jam is this Sunday, starts about 4-ish. I should be there, ask anyone for Dave from the Wirebirds and they'll point me out. Long hair, beard, probably a Gibson Thunderbird or EB4 this month.
I'll be popping down, will ask for you to come say hello (not to leer at your thunderbird - honest lol). Wifey may be with me so not sure how long will be able to stay
8. Was going to say the same as Barking Spiders above regarding Foo Fighters .
Surely the next natural step to this discussion is "Bands you do like, which have a member you don't like." Trickier, but i'm sure they exist.
Motley Crue, i like the band and enjoy the music but Tommy Lee (the person) seems like a bit of a clown shoe.
9.
I don't think St Anger is that bad, I like the production and the first half is pretty decent. It goes downhill on the second half, but it doesn't deserve the reputation it has and I'd certainly rather listen to it than the new one. There are some god-awful lyrics on it mind.
Yes, it does start out pretty well but seems like the run out of steam towards the latter half. Certainly did not deserve the dislike it got at launch. Not heard the new album yet, almost picked it up at the record shop yesterday but got a different album in the end (Slipknot's first album). Enjoying heavier stuff as i get older, maybe a music mid life crisis, lol.
10. Just watched Metallica's documentary Some Kind of Monster so giving St Anger another listen to.
11. Wow! This is an interesting read. Personally after listening to them i thought the Beatles were overrated. Admittedly i was only a little boy when John Lennon was shot so missed all the hype and their rise in popularity but i've listened to some of their songs and they never really did anything for me. I would have said Nickelback as they seem to be a band lots of people dislike for some reason or other but for a generic rock band, got to admit i have heard worse.
12. Bit of a long shot but thought i would ask. Does anyone going to this happen to have an Epiphone Thunderbird (any colour as long as it's black lol, only joking) they are looking to sell for around £125 - £150 please (or less if it is slightly tattered looking - as long as it plays fine, it may sound bad but love the looks of instruments that look worse for wear as they seem like they could tell a good story compared to an immaculate model). I am looking to get my first bass and don't have a great deal of money (hence the price i have mentioned). Just thought i would ask as have seen them going for these sort of prices on fleabay and could save listing fees and arranging collection/delivery. Could possibly be tempted with an Ibanez GSR180/200 depending on the price as well as these are the 2 basses i have narrowed it down to. Ideally would love a Thunderbird as it probably sounds really shallow but i personally love the look of them and having a bass you want to play rather than just settling for one for the sake of having one will give more motivation to pick up and learn more. If anyone does, could you pm please so can make arrangements. Thanks for reading.
13. Awesome, i will definitely be coming to have a look then, thank you. I'll be the sociably awkward one, no doubt in a Star Wars t-shirt looking like he has no clue what is going on, lol. Oh btw, i will be travelling from Witney and happy to car share if anyone from this way was going if you can tolerate radio 2.
14. Apologies for the silly question, have only just signed up to the forum, never played a bass and don't currently own one (hoping to get one soon). Is this something that's open for a clueless beginner to just come along and have a bit of a nose please ? Only about an hour or so drive and would be nice to have a nose at some bass playing up close and personal and see some different bass' in the flesh so to speak. If it is open to anyone with an interest in bass do you pay at the door or need to buy a ticket in advance ? Cheers
15. Thanks for the welcomes @Finndave - I will definitely pop down to Fat Lils on 24th to have a look, have walked past that place a few times so will be an excuse to pop in and try one of the burgers there, lol. @$pondonBassed - I have heard of this, i'm saying at the moment i will be happy once i have a bass and amp good enough practice with but i know that's b/s because i guess there is a plethora of unnecessary but awesome 'extras' one could invest in. I am afraid to go and look but no doubt would have by end of the night, lol. @ped - Wow, small world. That school is not far from where the wifey works.
