  1. Aaaargh! I can not justify a single £ spent on another 4-string fretted bass, but this is a bargain! It's a tough market, every artist has been hurting in the last 2 years. All I can do is bump it...
  2. I know, "indie" a bendable term - I'd love to support those shops that are seriously struggling right now because they don't get the footfall. Other than that, Andertons is fine, although they don't have the GHS. GAK have pdeal steel GHS but not for bass, that made my day 🙂 Does not have to be GHS, but the BC folks seem to agree that they are the best compromise between flats and rounds for a fretless, and I am re-assmbling my Fender J right now... Anyway - thanks for your reply! Hanry
  3. Hello folks, I have a need for bass strings, preferably GHS half-wounds, and I really don't want to buy them from the Bezos Empire. Thomann is reported to be ok with stock items, but not exactly a local shoppe 😉 On the other hand I had bad experiences recently with (non-music related) items bought from shops that claim that it's all going well, and then not shipping for three weeks. Can you recommend any independent UK music shops that stock a good range of strings and are proven to ship quickly right now? Many thanks! Hanry
  4. Damn, that looks tasty - I am saving on an HX Effects since that seems to make people happy here... but to be honest, most of what I want is the control for octave sounds, and Walrus have done beautifully... I shall go into the music room and meditate! Just to check - PSU comes with it? Thanks, Hanry
  5. Oh yes there are... but I don't have that kind of change lying around, so I'll keep honking on my Hohner paddle... Good luck!
  6. Andre, this is a beautiful looking and beautifully sounding bass. Congratulations! Your tuners look very sleek, too. I was particularly interested in the Nova string holder at the end of the neck, since it seems useful for retrofitting to headless conversion projects (do people do that? Well, it's on my wishlist for one of my basses, I can not abide headstocks...). Do the string ends stick out there or can they be tucked out of harms way? Cheers, Hanry
  7. Wow, that is a cool look, I may steal that for when I finally build a guitar!
  8. Thanks, I had heard of frankencasters but not barncasters. Looks gorgeous! They bring to mind the days long past when LeFay bought the floors from a disused dancehall that had been a social hot spot for generations... they used selected boards for bodies of their bases and called the wood "properly pre-grooved" - ever since I have been hoping to find a disused Victorian dancehall I can take some floor boards from!
  9. Only a small transaction, I bought a book off Ed and it came swiftly, well packaged, and all is good - thank you Ed!
  10. Sorry, I think I am being dense - a cable with connectors atached is £2 per meter, but straight off the roll is it £2.50 per meter?
  11. I could do with some cable, I am negotiating budget with the treasury tonight 😉 Can't help noticing that your LLX price on your website is cheaper than the one you advertised here - is that intentional? 🙂
  12. The engineer side of me is twitching because of the angled tuner pegs kinking the strings ever so slightly - but the bit that is bassist and appreciator of all things beautiful swings a wooden mallet to keep it quiet 😉 That is, by miles, the most atractive headstock I have seen on a bass... ever! I still prefer headless above all else, but if I ever build a bass with a headstock, I'll steal that idea! Enjoy the break, and may you find playing as enjoyable as I found following the build!
  13. No, frankly, it isn't. It's porn, is what it is... *drools*
  14. ...as for the airport scanners, just rotating it by 90 degrees should do the trick? 😉
  15. Damn, 18kg is a bit much for my bike rack - I am saving up for the C4-Lite... If you throw in a bike trailer, I'll take it :0)
  16. You have no idea how attractive that thing is, it warms my cockles to see a new, well built bass with nothing but a P-pickup 🙂 - but I can't justify acquiring another bass, unless it is fretless or 5-strung 😞
  17. Hello Mr. Blue 😉 I know MEC mostly from Warwick basses, which are a bit too "modern" for my liking. Can you describe the sound they make? Also, does "active" mean that their output is no good without an on-board active buffer? Thanks Hanry
  18. Blartfactor10 - the Shadow system arrived today, and while it is very nicely made, I will keep the set together: I am hoping to build a custom kit early next year, so the RP is hopefully going to be sold on as a complete system. Attached to an accoustic upright the size and weight of the Shadow box is negligible but the Bassix is so slender and centered, it is a bit too much, so it'll be a temporary arrangement only. Cathode_Follower - thanks for the links! I laughed when I saw them because many years ago when I was working in electronics I looked at cafewalter, but had all forgotten about it. I'm going to build my own pre-amp, but not before easter next year, my soldering irons have not had a workout for a long time 🙂
  19. Oh, thank you for the data! I will be in touch 😉
  20. Very frustrating that Shadow don't publish the weight and/or dimaneions of the box anywhere where it is easy to find....
  21. Thanks a lot Blartfactor! I am seriously considering this one, as a bonus I end up with two spare piezos (I am not going to touch the ones fixed on the Bassix already, otherwise this project turns into a complete rebuild 😉)
  22. Hullo! I had my Bassix upright for a while now, and while I don't spend enough time practising I like it very much. It was in very good nick when I got it but the electrics were a bit unreliable so I started investigating. I decided to improve matters a little ... 🙂 One of the things that I don't like so much is that it has two different piezo pick-ups, one under the bridge and one in the "trunk"/fingerboard - and they are passively mixed by a potentiometer before entering a no-name little 9V pre-amp quite similar to the one in my accoustic guitar. Are there affordable 🙂 on-board pre-amps that will buffer the piezo's before allowing a mix (as part of the control surface or perhaps via external potentiometer) that anyone can recommend? If it is a drop-in replacement that would be nice - but the Bassix is hollow so I would consider fitting a module inside and making a bespoke control surface for it in the current hole. Looking forward to mad suggestions! Thanks a lot! Hanry
