Anyone here use short or medium scale Rotosound swing bass? Just put a set on my Hofner and the E string has some really weird overtones, wondering if these die down once the strings break in.
-
So, I have checked for twisted string, checked pickup heights etc, I thought maybe the string would settle down and the overtones would go but 2 days later they were still there, Google search reveals that this is a common occurrence with the short and medium scale Rotosounds, put a cut down set of long scale Rotosounds on and bam, immediate improvement
Now should I contact Rotosound about this? It sounds like it is there product rather than a bad string, I feel slightly uncomfortable about contacting a manufacturer and telling them there product sucks but I kind of feel like they need to know, not that I imagine they will redesign this string that they have been selling for years.

Loving 90-35 gauge, nothing lost in tone and so easy to play
-
Yeah, when I used flats it was always TI's that I would use, less strain on the hands and I do think that tonally a less stuff string has a clearer tone, these are a bit lower tension than TI's but they feel about the same in terms of flexibility.
I tried Labella 760fl once which is meant to be there light gauge and I took them off on the same day because they were just too stiff

Hmm it would seem that Seymour Duncan secure there pickup wires with Pritt stick, or maybe spit and Blu tack

And another amplug bites the dust, honestly even for the relatively modest price they go for the build quality is shocking, another case of £5 build quality on a £40 device

@PaulThePlugI have been tempted by the EHX as it looks like a well made, solid piece of kit but the lack of an aux in has stopped me from getting one

And the Prosteels are off, bl@!dy dreadful things, as soon as I put them on half my midrange vanished, curiousity got the better of me and it didn't pay off.
Fresh set of Rotosounds on and wow the Rotos sound so much better, the growl is back and I actually have other frequencies besides low bass and high treble.
-
Yeah I dont think the Prosteels would work for me regardless of breaking in period, I thought I would give them a try rather than my usual Rotosounds and they seemed to suck all the life out of my tone, way too sterile and polite, when I put the Rotos back on I was amazed how much better they sounded

After a Dimarzio model p or split p, message me if you have one you want to sell

Hmm not sure about these Prosteels, they seem to sound good on some basses and rubbish on others, lots of boom and ping, pretty much zero midrange

GAS - I'm tempted by a Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass IV that I've found for sale, what do you think, shall I go for it?
-
I know, when I get a new bass I usually play it for a few minutes first, check how the action is and then change the strings and work on the setup but that bass as soon as I got it the first thing I did was take the strings off straightaway and clean and disinfect the bass. The thing that really took the p!ss is that the previous owner described it an "as new" condition

That moment when you have brought a used bass and you realize you are probably going to have to disinfect the thing before you can play it 🤮

Anyone got a Dimarzio Split P they want to get rid of?

Just heard this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBuOJF_rX40 , great bass tone, wondering how to get this tone

Oh band dramas, the sh!@ has really hit the fan with this one, honestly I sometimes wonder why we put ourselves through this
-
Anyway, I had a phone call from the drummer yesterday saying that the guitarist had phoned him and was ranting about it, the other guitarist is now saying that he has now admitted he was told about the gig but now claims that this was all part of a plan to steal the gig from him, on Saturday I was like omg this is awful and now I am just sick of hearing about it and am thinking that this situation is just pathetic and sad now

@prowla I think part of the issue was that the guitarist who was whizzed about it felt like we had stolen the gig from the rest of the band, also probably doesn't help that he is friendly with the people we did the gig for, I am guessing there is a bit of wounded pride/ego going on there

No, between 2 guitarists, in a nutshell I did an accoustic gig at the weekend with one of the guitarists, we had universally agreed that as a whole band we were not ready.
Anyway one of the guitarists offered me the gig with me and him as he was confident we could do it, I accepted aIs had been told the other guitarist had been told about this and was fine with it.
We did the gig and it went down very well, anyway the next day I get an irate phone call from the other guitarist demanding to know why we had apparently gone behind his back and done the gig and he has only found out from other people, I genuinely thought he knew about it and had even been told he was coming to watch the gig.
Anyway after discussing it seems to be a miscommunication but the 2 of them but they don't seem to be communicating
Now stuck with the unenviable role of trying to get the 2 guitarists to talk and sort out what happened

According to the BC profanity filter, our next gig (18th March) is at the Fighting pink torpedos in Kingston

Ok, tried some Daddario rounds on the Vintera fully expecting them to stay, the TI jazz flats are going back on, flats on this bass just feels and sounds right

Isn’t it crazy that nobody during WW2 had ever heard electric slap bass?

1st ding in a relatively recently received bass Small crack in the paintwork and a small dent, no chips thankfully and pretty minor but surprised how easily Fenders paintwork cracks
